i agree, about the quality, also a bonus if the quality is better than the price suggests. sometimes cheap is cheap, and sometimes the quality is not indicative of the price, if that makes any sense. the second pot of the morning is some czar nicholas. a russian style tea i purchased in the euro market in harrisonburg. this stuff has bergamont in spades, have to be careful on the amount used or its undrinkable.

No worries Loon,it's all in what ya like. Ceylons and Assams can come in different grades like any tea. Some are lame , while others are better quality hence stronger . Assam tea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Tea production in Sri Lanka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Exactly, at least for my first purchase of loose leaf. But fear not gents, after a short two hour drive I found myself in a town with a tea shop and a decent selection of loose tea. I picked up an Irish Breakfast, Parisian breakfast (black tea with orange and vanilla), tolstoys (Russian black tea) and Raoibos (African red). I tried the Irish tonight and I have got to say I love it.

I just had some Earl Grey in my Grandmother's old tea pot to start out my evening. There's only one teacup left, but having survived a house with three boys growing up in it, it's a miracle that it's left. The handles on the teapot no longer have any insulation on them. Any idea how I could fix that? I see the new ones have wicker or some type of basket weaving stuff braided onto the wires. Like I said, I'm open for suggestions.

    Default I learned something today......

I learned something today, and thought I'd pass it on. I was fixing a pot of tea today, I used water from my filtered water pitcher. I heated it to boiling in my stainless tea kettle. I then transferred it to a glass pot and put the heat to medium under it to bring it back to boiling, so I'd know it hadn't cooled too much while getting the tea ready. I placed the loose tea in the glass strainer. The water in the glass pot WAS NOT BOILING. The instant the strainer touched the water, it flashed to boiling, violently boiling. Luckily, it didn't splash on me and I hadn't let go of the strainer, so I removed it and killed the fire under the pot. I had heard of it happening with ultra pure water, but I thought I was OK using my filtered water, I guess the filter gets out more impurities than I knew. What happened was the water surface tension overcame the waters ability to change phase, no spots on the pot's surface to provide a place to liberate gas bubbles, the water superheated, getting well over 212 degrees and releasing all at once when I broke the surface tension. Sorry if this is boring, but, I really have no life lately. I did learn, my water is more pure than I thought, and that my glass pot is being kept really clean!! Below is a ten second video showing this happening.
So, be careful!! Tea can be dangerous!!
