Milk and water in a pan with a bit of cinnamon, some cloves, cardamom, a bit of black pepper and some sugar. Brought to the boil. Stuck in a tea bag (didn't have any suitable loose-leaf) and let it simmer for a couple of mins. Strained into a mug. Wondered why the hell I'd never done this before!

Sorry I don't have a pic but I drank it too quickly! I don't know what I'd do differently next time. I only had one bag but then I only made one cup...I might see what two bags does though. I also had more milk than water so maybe I'll try and reverse that, too. Spice seemed good...maybe heavy on the cinnamon (or more to the point, not heavy enough on the rest).

I don't even drink milky tea, but this really is something else entirely.

When I have tried my hand at Chai I usually go more on the milk... I think a cream would be good too...

You show London as your locations... Don't they drink milk & tea

Yeah, strong milky tea is pretty much the standard in these parts but I usually prefer my tea black (if I'm drinking that type of tea, of course). A good proper chai, though, that goes beyond 'tea with milk and sugar' and was much nicer, in my opinion...very easy, too!

Don't get me wrong, the 'more milk' was lovely and made it nice and thick, I just wondered what would happen if I had more water instead.

    EDIT:

    You would have watery Chai

IMO, the heavier the Milk/Cream the better... And I'm not a big milk fan in tea...

This is a valid point. I think you're right—creamier is better.

    Bela,

Isn't Chai more milk than water anyway?

It is tea made on milk, or so I have been led to believe, and indeed, I make my own entirely with milk. No water at all.
