This thread inspired me to try a Bay Rum. I got a bottle of Dominica, which is patiently waiting its turn as I work through all my samples and new products. SGAD binge!

Picked up a bottle of the Capt Smith's Bay Rum gave it a try. I also tried the Bay Rum lime. I liked them both and so did my wife. Just the right amount of scent for me. You know its there, but not overpowering. Ken

I tried, and enjoyed, Dominica. It was a bit strong at first, but it mellowed into a very nice scent that will certainly keep it in the rotation.

Thanked: 485My Dominica Bay Rum (along with Pinaud Clubman) arrived tonight from Classic Shaving. 16 days total from USA to South Aust, not bad! The scent is amazing! Caused a coughing fit when I first put it on (much to my son's delight). He was disgusted by the scent and said "What, are you TRYING to smell like an old man?". That's actually quite diplomatic of him. He's 14. Enough said.
I love this stuff! It makes my skin feel really nice too. I love the 'clovey' smell; it really smells like it's got cloves in it. Not sure if it actually has or not. Love the size of the bottle too 10 fl oz, not sure what that is in metric. Anyway, there's enough to splash with wanton abandon, and it only cost 13 bucks!
Love the smell of the Pinaud Clubman too. I wish the Clubman bottle was glass though; though I guess if I drop it in the bathroom it's likely to survive better than glass.
Which one to wear tomorrow? Or is it crass to wear BOTH?Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 485Wow, no posts on this thread since last year!
Oh well, probably better to post here than make a new thread...
I received D. R. Harris Bay Rum the other night. It's very nice. Nice old fashioned glass bottle and label. It's not as strong to me as Dominica; and not as sweet smelling. Pashana Hair Tonic; the other Bay Rum product I've used lately, is also stronger.
In regards to the ingredients of these products, it's interesting what is listed and what is alluded to on the labels. Dominica lists the ingredients as alcohol, water and fragrance. Pashana Hair Tonic's ingredients are listed as alcohol denat, aqua, parfum, geraniol, citral, linalool, limonene, benzyl alcohol, eugenol and then some numbers. D. R. Harris Bay Rum strikes me as having quite natural ingredients; alcohol denat, aqua, pimenta acris, pimenta officinalis, cetrimonium chloride.
The D. R. Harris, Pashana Hair Tonic and 'Whiskey' by Evaflor Eau de Toilette all go very well together...
[EDIT] Actually, I just Googled Cetrimonium chloride. It's interesting that it's in this product. It must be used here as an emulsifier, as the other stated use is to smooth hair and help to de-tangle it, which one would doubt would be useful post shave :-)
It's interesting that on one site it states 'However, never use hair care products with Cetrimonium chloride on damaged scalp and on scalp with open wounds.' One would think that it might not be good on shaving nicks and cuts?
[EDIT AGAIN] Just Googled all the Pashana Hair Tonic products and it's quite a natural product, in my opinion. The numbers are colours, of course.Last edited by carlmaloschneider; 09-01-2012 at 01:33 AM.

Have to admit I haven't tried D.R.Harris yet. I still like the Meehan line from Bonny Doone Farms which has a very nice Bay Rhum (their spelling). I need to reorder and they have a few
other types I might try. I like the woody earthly spicy types as off late, such as Oak from Bath and Body Works.

As others have said, Clubman Original smells like an old-fashioned barber shop. I like it, and so does SWMBO.
As for Bay Rums, I don't yet have BRAD (Bay Rum Acquisition Disorder), so I'm probably going to just try one or two at a time.
Right now, that looks like Dominica and Ogallala.
