just read through this entire thread over again and realized that no one mentioned my standard bay rum.. bert's bees bay rum aftershave balm.. has patchouli in it.. which is somewhat of a turnoff to most.. and normally a turnoff to me.. but this is my all time favourite aftershave...

Thanked: 0I also like the Berts bees aftershave balm. Also have the aftershave, unfortunately the aftershave seems too overwhelming to me. and turned me off to bay rums but have not really tried any others so not really sure

I like the Dominica as well. It's about 70% alcohol, so it does bite. But other than the bay rum scent itself, not much else is in there. Got a good comparative review on one site I visited that now, I can't seem to find!
I'd love to hear a comparison of Dominica with:
Superior 70
Royall
Capt. Smiths
these three seem interesting to me but I don't have tons of cash to spend on aftershave. Wish their vendors gave samples!

Just tried Dominica Bay Rum aftershave for the first time this morning. WOW! it felt like a shot of hard liquor for my face. My face lit up hot and then felt like it was evaporating away leaving my face feeling amazing.

Glen,
Is there a "gold standard" Bay Rum? The ancient, original Bay Rum that's still produced today the way it was when the Carribeans started making it? I don't have any experience with it, and I'd like the first shot to be the baseline I judge all the others by. Make sense?
Thanks!
(And a purely rhetorical-not-addressed-specifically-to-you PS in teeny tiny font so everyone understands I'm just puzzled and not p!ssed off... : Why, when I go to our database and type in "Bay Rum", can't I find out the answers to the questions I just asked? Seems pretty straight forward. Typing "Bay Rum" in the search here:Search results for "Bay Rum" - Straight Razor Place Wiki gets one return- a page about a soap! Baffling. I'd think there'd be MILLIONS!... ...well, at least three or four. I guess I got a lot to learn about using our database. <sigh> )

Thanked: 13245Hmmmm good question...
I know many of these say they have serious lineage if you read the labels
For me the Gold Standard is Royall Bay Rhum...
I can remember buying this for Pops when I was just a little tyke so my memories of this on go back at least 47 years to when I was about 4..
It was the first bay rum I wanted for myself, you know they used to put a bay leaf in every bottle at one time
But in my very biased opinion this is the ONE you have to have in a Bay Rum collection.. I love them all, I really do, but that one has memories attached for me and heck it feels great on the face too...
