Thanked: 19Looking at my first straight razor. Ralf Aust has come recommended, but at SRD the 6/8 is twice as expensive as the 5/8 model. Lynn recommends starting with a 6/8 full hollow. Any thoughts on this? Is the basic Ralf Aust 5/8 full hollow okay to start with, or should I look for another make in a 6/8 that doesn't break the bank?

I started with a R. Aust 5/8 and still like it a lot. The 5/8 will be fine. Then if you want a 6/8 you can watch the Classifieds here and pick up a 6/8 classic, perhaps for less.

Hi everyone, here are my two Ralf Aust razors:
One 6/8", one 7/8", rescaled in original Mk32 ivory scales.

My 7/8 Spanish point has been on a journey. It started in the hands of Obie.
From my SoD a while back..
I then made a set of streaked horn scales for it, and never did a final polish on them.. I just didn't like the result..
Inspired by the pics in the previous post, I made a set of cow bone scales (I couldn't find ivory)

Ralf Aust 6/8 with Grenadille scales and American point. I'm told there were only a few of these made. Don't know if that is accurate or not but it sure is a nice razor.

My Ralf Aust 5/8" from SRD. Shaves like a dream!! My 2nd straight and first from Germany. Couldn't be happier with this razor.

Thanked: 55Question for those who ordered straight from Aust. Are they sent from him truly shave ready? Am in Europe and would be much easier to order from him direct whenever I get cash together. They look beautiful by the way. Specially the rescaled ones.
