    Default Shumate #222

Hey guys I'm new here and I have a question. Would any authentic Shumate #222s NOT have "222 Shumate" stamped on the tang on the reverse side of the tang stamped, "Schumate Cutlery Corp. St. Louis, MO"? Any information would be helpful. I'm looking at one with nothing stamped on the reverse side of, "Schumate Cutlery Corp. St. Louis, MO". It doesen't look refinished though. Thanks in advance.

Just completed my first full face shave with a straight using this baby. It's in really good shape except for the box. I'm assuming its a later model, but I'd like to know a little more about it. I'm curious about the L.M. stamped on the tail. I'm assuming that means something.

Neither one has ever been used or honed before. The one still in its original paper inner sleeve. Sorry for the so so pic.
Very happy to have found these.
    Cheers.

I was hoping to be a part of this club & still can but I wanted to start with a mint Ausin Shumate being a native Texan myself but after I got it today & looked at it after polishing the blade with some Maas, I found it was cracked. It bummed me out because it didn't even look like it had touched a hone it was so beautiful!

I'd like to submit my application to join the club. Last week I happened upon an eBay auction for three razors, one of which was a Shumate's Peacemaker that looked to be in good condition. I received it yesterday and it was in better condition than I expected. It looked as though it had never been used, though it already had a pretty sharp edge on it. Despite the sharp edge, I decided to reset the bevel and hone it on lapping paper, then took it for a test shave. It resulted in by far the best shave I've ever had. I'm sold, the Peacemaker now sits atop my meager collection and I may never feel the need to use a different razor again...

Bummer. It does make you angry.

Just had the same with a Genco Army/Navy. My purchase was from a antique store. I now know why the lighting is so dim.

Yeah, it sucked Dave but it came in a very nice looking box from Austin, Tx which you never see either so I got the seller to give me most of my money back & kept it for the box. I have a couple others from Austin but this one was in mint condition while the others are well worn/used. I've seen some more from Austin but the seller's seem to think that have a gold bar! Another one will come along one day & if so, I hope I have the money for it. I grew up in Houston & I found one once from Houston, TX so I got it for little or nothing. I have never seen another one from Houston, a very rare piece.
    Thanks Dave.............
