The day has finally come and it has been a wonderful day! This afternoon I finally went to Mastro Livi's workshop and I could finally hold in my hands the magnificent razor he made for me. And I truly mean "for me" in many ways: it is an unique piece of art, a masterpiece created according to my taste and the size of my hand. It simply is amazing!
The afternoon has also been the occasion to talk to Mastro Livi and, of course, to learn a huge deal of things about straight razors and how to properly keep the bevel, as well as how to hone, strop and hone maintenance. Mastro Livi is a remarkable man as well as an impeccable master, patient and willing to teach others the endless things he knows about steel, forging, straight razor and shaving.
I am certainly looking forward in meeting him again as well as learning more from him.
During my visit, I took some pictures and Mastro Livi - and his wife and son Luca, of course - have all been very kind to me, as usual.
After talking for a little while about razors and the razor he made for me, Mastro Livi suddenly took a wooden box in his hands and opened it. I was not prepared for that and I did not realize that was the box of my razor. I could not believe to see that wonderful beauty: MY Mastro Livi razor was in front of me in all of his enchanting and ravishing beauty. Oh men! After more than ten years I finally became a very happy owner of a Mastro Livi razor! The razor simply is perfect in every part, from box to honing (if you are wondering about this, yes, Mastro Livi personally honed the razor and it really is shave ready, for real) and when I opened the razor and held it in my hand I could not believe that was my razor.
I must be confident about this: in my collection I have about 100 straight razors, ancient ones, very ancient ones and modern ones, well, this razor incredibly fits in my hand like no other. It simply is amazing, moreover the weight of the razor is wonderfully balanced: a truly and remarkable masterpiece, talent, technique and craftmanship.
Of course, I will post pictures of my Mastro Livi razor, but before doing that, I would like to share with you all some pictures I took this afternoon, showing some recent Mastro Livi razors and some work in progress, as well as very special straight razors and a special shaving set. And MY Mastro Livi razor, of course!
    Are you ready?

The Straight Razor collector paradise: blades in the processing of production. All of them have been forged, tempered and ground by Mastro Livi. Please note the blade on top-left, the one with white dots: it is a blade with a tang of mother of pearl and the dots are made of mother of pearl and set in the blade.

Mastro Livi's bottega shelves: two straight razors and a folding knife. On the left a badger brush with horn handle (I am sure you know Mastro Livi also makes brushes) and a straight razor scales made of mammoth fossils.

Replica of the gift Mastro Livi personally made for Pope Francis. The colors of the box are white and yellow, the same colors of Vatican City flag. This shave kit is made of a straight razor with a RWL34 steel blade and mammoth fossils scales; Belgian coticule; badger brush; Mastro Livi strop pad; chromium oxide for the strop and a rosary Mastro Livi personally made from mammoth fossils. The cross and the grains are all made of mammoth fossils, hand made, of course.

A straight razor from Mastro Livi's genius and talent: probably the lightest stainless steel straight razor of the world.

    • 15/16 Full Hollow, Spanish Point, RWL34 Steel
    • African Black Ebony Scales
    • 19 holes: 12 in the blade and 7 in the scales
    • A weight of just 48 grams (about 1.70 ounces)
