    Hot shower as always
Gentleman's Best cold pressed soap rubbed into whiskers
Pre-Shave I tried rubbing the soap into the whiskers and lathered over.
    Badger brush
    Castle Forbes Cream
Wade and Butcher Celebrated Barbers Notch
    10 laps on CrO2
    20 on Felt 50 on SRD P1
    Aluminum Block
    Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel
    Vaseline for Men.

2 day growth. Blade felt very smooth after the 10 laps on the CrO2.

Since my youngest daughter went off to college and the house is now empty, I commandeered her bath for the time being for shaving.

    Default Tuesday

Didn't have a lot of time to shave this morning gents, so a reached for my trusty de razor.

Prep: Hot shower--followed by Robeson bay rum (mentholated) beard prep
    Brush:
    Caswell Massey “Super Badger”
    SS:
    Pre' de Provence
    Razor:
Merkur HD 34C w/ Wilkinson Sword blade
    Astringent:
    Thayer’s Original Witch Hazel
    ASB:
    Zirh “Soothe”
    AS:
    McLas (Mentholated) Bay Rum
    Result:
    Smooth shaving--with a cooling menthol finish…

I like this Pre' de Provence shaving soap as much as MWF. It lathers nicely, has a nice subtle sage fragrance and delivers a close, comfortable shave.

This is the facility I retired from as a Tool & Die maker, making experimental pieces for whatever a Physicist could dream up. I made the rounds of a few shops, ending up in the Physics Department.. So, on with the tour..

The entrance to Brookhaven National Laboratory, which sits on the site of Old Camp Upton, where many a WWI Doughboy learned the ropes in basic. I have an old hand grenade found on the site, sans fuse and hardware..
BNL is basically a city unto itself, with at one time more than 3,000 employees. It's focus is basic research with almost nil towards weapons, but it is a nuclear facility. Hence, it has it's own security force, hospital, fire department, Post Office and all other services a small municipality would have...

The entrance to the Lab. The Main Gate is about a quarter mile up the road...

    Attachment 48436

Next is the new Administration building, housing Personell offices, the Bank, Travel Offices and Visitor Services..

    Attachment 48437

And last for today, the old HFBR (High Flux Beam Reactor), a Heavy Water Research Reactor , upgraded from 40 MW to 60 MW of heat energy, designed specifically to supply copious amounts of neutrons for the experimental ports placed around the core. I worked at the Reactor for almost twenty years, and it's kinda' sad to see it now being dismantled, but time marches on... The vessel will remain... far too dangerous to remove because it's hotter than a $2 pistol...
I only wish I could have gotten a pic of the spent fuel pool, now empty of the spent fuel rods (enriched U-235) that emitted such a beautiful bluish glow under twenty feet of protective water... the danger belied by the soft glow of Cerenkov Radiation...

    Bill,
Don't even think about going near the Captain's whiskers ...Froggy will not be happy .

    Great gear buddy.

BTW: don't you miss BNL? I have never been there but have paid many productive visits to the Los Alamos and Lawrence Berkeley labs...they are very impressive facilities.

    Default Tuesday Night Shave!

6/8 Erik Anton Berg | Shavemac Finest Badger | Institut Karite Soap | Razorock Alum | Institut Karite Aftershave Balm | Pinaud Clubman

First off, I usually shave in the morning prior to work, but I finished touching up the E.A. Berg and I wanted to give it a run. I have been fighting with this razor on and off for the last three shaves. I still can't figure it out, but I think I may have rolled the edge or done something to it. Some days it is comfortable and close and other days it is rough and tugging. After tonight's touch up, it was a decent shave. I'm a honing newb, so I place no blame on the razor. Overall, I was pleased with the results of my honing as it was definitely an improvement.

I've also been using the Institut Karite products exclusively for the previous few shaves. The soap doesn't treat me as nice as MWF, Tabac or Provence Sante which are my three favorites. The Aftershave is very nice though and I plan on replacing my Nivea with the I.K.

PS: Couldn't help myself....had to apply the clubman even though I'm heading to bed soon.

You know Monroe/Chris...you are a source of inspiration for me . Seeing your SOTD makes me realize how much I have missed my DEs...I did an SOTD with them not too long ago (I think), but I believe that after seeing your posts, I am seriously thinking about bringing them out of retirement and make them part of the normal rotation (maybe starting next week). Thanks guys .
