Great to back online!!
I was away for the last few days at my brothers caravan. Although I was armed with my laptop and dongle for mobile broadband nobody told me that wedged in that tight to the Mountains of Mourne would mean no internet!!!
No internet......Weather wasn't great but the scenery was breathtaking!
I'm back like a new man and at least I haven't forgotten how to shave with a straight.

Frank,
Great minds think alike (wink, wink)...I used my Maximized Helje this AM too.
Niiiiiiiice...I was debating between my Iwasaki and Helje last night, but opted for the Helje
Been wondering where you'd been hiding Oscar. We were this close to filing a "Missing Persons" report, LOL. Great to have you back. Sounds like a fun time (would love to see pictures).

Week of May 15 SOTD - Thursday
Back to Reality Shave
Pre-Shave: Hot shower Brush: 24mm Morris & Forndran, 2-band Blonde Badger Maxterpiece: 6/8" C.V. Heljestrand #32, 1/2 Hollow, French Point (Butterscotch Micarta scales) Strop: 45/60 laps (Neil Miller linen / SRD Premium IV leather) Lather: Unknown Artisan Shave Soap (thanks Max) Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol) Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue AS Cologne: Acca Kappa "Muschio Bianco" EdC Trip Highlights: We are back from Las Vegas. We had such great fun and an awesome time with Max and family (Wife and I thank the Sprechers for their generous hospitality ). I got to spend a couple of hours in Max' shop helping him (well...more like watching and being a useless tool) turn a piece of "boring" metal into what is sure to be the genesis of a Maxtom. And no, I did not bring 10 more Maxterpieces with me (it was tempting though)...However, I did get a chance to drool over my Maxtom razor (which may be ready sometime next week). I was in awe of Max' work. I also left him with 3 resale projects . Results: I hadn't shaved since Mid-day Monday and sporting a heavy and coarse 3-day growth. Good news is that this AM, I was greeted to a wonderful shave by this unassuming Helje. What a fabulous feeling to watch and hear the whiskers surrender to the sweet edge of this beautiful blade. To me, the true test of a straight razor's edge is in how she performs when going ATG. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is where the Swedes shine . On the lather front, Max gave me a puck of this unknown artisan soap to try. It smells like melon and some other "good" stuff. The performance was OK, not great. I am used to getting some really thick, moist and shiny lather, and this soap was just OK. The lather had very little cushion to speak of (maybe too much water ) and turned too fluffy for my taste. It also started to break down in the scuttle. I finally added some creme and whipped up a nice superlather out of this and finished the shave. Take this with a grain of salt...this was my first try with this soap. I will have to experiment some more to find its sweet spot. I am BBS, smooth, super clean and super happy.

Have an INCREDIBLE Thursday gentlemen.

Glad to see you're back home, sound and safe!
Wow, just goes to show. That artisan soap produces one of the thickest, creamy, wonderful and plentiful lather with my water. It's one of my top ranked soaps performance wise. But then again I get the crappiest, most horrible, water thin, non lathering performance out of MWF, which I ended tossing like a Frisbee. LOL
