Notes: Lovely shave this evening, but I fell victim to the cold lather again today (no hot water in my scuttle, which is a disappointment most of the time). Still, the suds performed well, the Heljestrand performed flawlessly and the splash rich on coffee and myrrh, with a hint of spices and orange, left me comfortably BBS.



Some truly spectacular shaves today, I had to concentrate to keep the drooling to a mimimum Have a great midweek evening guys!

Comments: A shave without problems today, all the stuff is very known to me, and I feel comfortable using everything, from the vulfix Grosvenor handle filled with Simpson's superbadger hair, to the efficient Henckels Friodur one of my favs in 7/8. The Al's cream gives and excellent lather and the fresh of the citric scents that I like in summer, in this way I finished with the limes of Mennen and Floris. Excellent!

Also, they go through some maturing together on a chemical level. For instance, the classic fougere scent is made up from lavender and tonka (lots of other fun things can go in as well, but the defining accord in a fougere is lavender + tonka). The classic ladies' fragrance, chypre, also started as a simple 2-tone accord (oakmoss and bergamot). When mixed and left to mature (this in particular for many months) they will end up smelling completely different than the two oils together. During maturing, the oils just sit together in the dark, getting mixed (vigorous shaking for 30 seconds) daily or so. After some weeks I take them out and mix in alcohol, again shaking well. The amount of alcohol I use usually absorbs all the oils immediately, altho some require further daily mixing. They may also benefit from further maturing, in that the fragrance may develop further. Practically, I tend to start using them as soon as I've mixed them in alcohol, I just give them a shake before use.
Also, I use a touch of glycerin in the mix, as well as a little green tea oil (that's the same as camellia oil for those who were not aware) both for cosmetic reasons rather than any olfactory properties.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, and to apply your own concoction after a nice shave certainly has it's own appeal

I'd love to see a description of a couple of your favorites! Do you make a Bay Rum? I've made one but would like to improve upon it.
