Well today we were going to head up to NH for 3 days at the beach. They called this am and canceled on us. They are boarding up the place for the pending Hurricane that due to hit this weekend. Party poopers. What affraid of 140MPH wind. Sissy. LOL! So we are going south to New Port Ri for the day.

Glenn restored this razor for me. I told him NOT to remove all the pitting. I wanted to leave some of the charicter to this Smileing blade. He did a great job and an even better one on the edge. 2 passes with not even a though of needing a touch up. Amazing shave coming a 180 year old blade. Oh if she could talk i would love to know where she has been.

Wonderful post guys. Enjoy your day!

Oh forgot to mention. Its not esay stroping in a rolling X. LOL!

Wow, props on that beautiful blade. Customs are nice (Waaaay out of my price range) but nothing beats the character of an old vintage blade!

Post Week of August 21 SOTD - Wednesday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
    Brush: 22mm Vulfix Super Badger
Razor: 13/16" Kikuteru Frameback, Spike Point
Strop: 30/45/50 (Neil Miller Linen / Imperial Horsehide leather / Imperial Cordovan leather)
Überlather: Al Raz Custom "Cloves/Cinnamon/Orange" Shave Creme + Cella Creme da Barba Shave Soap + Glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue AS
After Shave Balm: Al Raz Orange Spice ASB
    Cologne: Ralph Lauren "Safari" EdT
Results: I wasn't going to shave today, but did it anyway. Used a previous setup with the Kikuteru and Vulfix, but this time, I mixed in two top performers together: Al's custom and Cella. The resulting lather just exploded and the spicy scent of Al's creme took over the den. I was in Heaven. BBS and loving it.

    Have an EXCELLENT Wednesday gentlemen.

Another really nice shave. I have obtained some new scales for this Razor, so last couple of shaves with it today and tomorrow, I'll try and fit them tomorrow night.
Nice Wacker EA...Can't wait to see her in new clothing

The Heljes I searched out for him (it's not very hard to find the medium/small ones and they don't cost a ton over here, usually).
Ahhh...my bad Mikael. So, it was a 1:1 deal after all...Well, so long as you're both happy (which sounds like it). Great trade bro

The new L'Occitane shea butter hard balm came in handy at the end (I rubbed it in my palms and then directly onto my wet face).
    Konstantinos,
Beautiful DT my friend and that Shea butter from L'Occitane sounds amazing. My wife and I use their hard Shea creme (not for face) and it is indeed amazing. I will have to give this Apricot one a try for the face

Very nice shave last night. the Acca Kappa always performs so well and the aroma is just the best. The Monkhouse is one of my favorite razors, I think it is a nice looking razor. After Max got done with it, the edge is superb and I really enjoy shaving with it.
    Jeff,
Max did an amazing job with that blade...to combine it with the Acca Kappa was a great choice

BIG +1 Joe...As much as I love customs (I only have one Maxtom), I prefer collecting vintage blades

Basically, yes. The oils have different weight, some are light and some are heavy and viscous, and they need some time to physically mix with each other. Also, they go through some maturing together on a chemical level. For instance, the classic fougere scent is made up from lavender and tonka (lots of other fun things can go in as well, but the defining accord in a fougere is lavender + tonka). The classic ladies' fragrance, chypre, also started as a simple 2-tone accord (oakmoss and bergamot). When mixed and left to mature (this in particular for many months) they will end up smelling completely different than the two oils together. Like, they no longer smell like tonka and lavender together, but rather they form a totally new fragrance. This is true to some extent in most, if not all, mixes.
During maturing, the oils just sit together in the dark, getting mixed (vigorous shaking for 30 seconds) daily or so. After some weeks I take them out and mix in alcohol, again shaking well. The amount of alcohol I use usually absorbs all the oils immediately, altho some require further daily mixing. They may also benefit from further maturing, in that the fragrance may develop further. Practically, I tend to start using them as soon as I've mixed them in alcohol, I just give them a shake before use.
Also, I use a touch of glycerin in the mix, as well as a little green tea oil (that's the same as camellia oil for those who were not aware) both for cosmetic reasons rather than any olfactory properties.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, and to apply your own concoction after a nice shave certainly has it's own appeal
