Brush: Frank's Fine Badger
Cream: Dreadnaught
Razor: Unknown Sheffield Wedge
Astringent: Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel
Balm: Dreadnaught
A/S: Aqua Velva Ice Blue
I received a package from SRD yesterday, and the good people there threw in some samples for me to try.
Tonight I tried the Dreadnaught Cream and Balm. It lathered easily and well, performed and smelled great.
I was impresses with both the cream and balm.
A fantastic 2 pass shave for me tonight.
Thanks for the great posts and pics boys

This has to be one of the most fortunate "misfits" I could have the pleasure of owning. I bought this Filarmonica DT14 as NOS. When it arrived, I was thrilled that it was all it promised to be. It was my first Filarmonica. I sent it off to a very reputable person for honing. He immediately contacted me and told me he'd never seen a DT quite like it. The tang is not stamped, which was evidently common on the older Filarmonica's, but it was the very hollow ground of the earlier DT series. Max Sprecher made the same observation when I showed it to him. Regardless, it is an amazing shaver, and it will never be leaving my island, at least not until I do!
The Filarmonica was paired with a new product for me - Monsavon soap. This mythical French soap is very hard to come by here on this side of the pond. Due to the amazing generosity of a forum member, I was PIF'd a brand new tub. It is a nearly scentless tallowate soap. It performed brilliantly! The soap and razor made sure that I was CBS in 2 passes! I'm ready for my day, are you ready for yours?

You know fellas, I'm starting to believe there may just be something to this iced water shaving business. Today was my second and I really like it very much. It's indeed a far cry from the canteen cup field shaves of days gone by.The older I get, the better I was

Pre: Hot Shower, Nivea Face Wash, Nivea Face Scrub
Soap: Dr. Gray's Key Lime
Brush: Vie Long Special Edition Beehive Horse Hair
Scuttle: SWK XL White
Razor: W&B "Masonic" c.a. 1930 -- Max Sprecher Restore
Astringent: Dickinson's Witch Hazel
AS: D.R. Harris Arlington
Result: SUPERB shave, CCS
Received this W&B yesterday and was super stoked to give it a go this morning. It's a beauty and as always, Max put a "wicked sharp" edge. The key lime soap is just sublime. It match very well with the Arlington aftershave. Looks like a busy day today, but I couldn't ask for a better start. Stay safe my friends.
Here's a couple "before & after" photos.

Thanked: 3228Pre - Alum block
Strop - 3 inch bridle leather with hard felt
Brush - SOC 2 band badger
Razor - Vintage Boker King Cutter 5/8
Soap - Vitos Red
Post - Alum block followed by Thayers witch hazel
This Boker was a rescue razor that had broken scales. It turned out to be one of my best shavers and today was no exception. The Boker sounds and feels like the same sizes DDs I have when shaving. I am guessing they are all very hollow ground. Super start to the days, hope yours is too.

Thanked: 247My dear wife gave me an early Christmas present last night (she wanted to ease my stress and bad mood from a rough day).
Bless her heart, she worked with a member here who is a fairly well known custom maker to create my ideal razor. I guess I dropped enough hints or she managed to listen to (and actually digest) my boring drivel about what I like and do not like in my razors...I have some favorites, but none of them TRULY match what I would like if given a choice. Said another way, I love most of my razors, but if I could I would change something about every one of them (but of course I do not and will not change them).
I have developed some strong preferences over the few months that I have been shaving and she (with the maker) somehow managed to incorporate all of them into one fine piece.
I got to take it for a test drive this morning and I am not going to over-sell it and say "angles reside on the edge" or anything silly like that...but I will say that the edge is on par with anything I have ever tried (which is to say, VERY good), but the design of the blade, the comfort in hand, the balance while stropping, the shape of the heel and toe relative to the shaping work I like to do, and the nearly shoulder-less design...this piece is my vision of an ideal razor.
Now...I am TRULY sorry to report that I was in a bit of a hurry this morning and failed to take any photos....I promise I will take some proper photos at some point in time very soon...I think you all be pleased with the looks of this piece.
Sorry, I have not mentioned the name of the maker...I will in due time...I promise. I will do a full review with LOTS of photos (hopefully with a decent camera). There is more to this story, and I want to share it all...I will share it all when I get the time to do it properly!
Prep: hot shower, shampoo face wash
Brush: custom silvertip made by Glen (gssixgun)
Lather: warmed mug my son made with Tabac cream
Cold water rinse, followed by a splash of Club man.
Only 2 passes as I was pressed for time, but they were wonderful and the results were quite niceLast edited by unit; 12-04-2012 at 02:25 PM.
