First Shave of the New Year

Pre: Hot Shower, 10 Linen, 15 Leather
Razor: Hart 6/8" Square Tip w/Rosewood
Brush: Simpson Major Travel Brush Super Badger
    Scuttle: None
Soap: Van Der Hagen Dual Bath and Shave Soap
    Post: Cold water and Alum
    Aftershave: Proraso White

Well as I brought up in a different thread, I picked up a puck of what I thought was just VDH but it turned out to be Dual Bath and Bar. It has a opaque white side and a clear green side. I was befuddled so I cut it into a clear bar and an opaque bar. Today's shave was the opaque side. Nice creamy lather.

I tried a new bit of technique today as I am growing the beard out I am only shaving the neck and under the chin. When I was using cartridges I would shave south to north on the neck and meet the north to south under the chin. It was the only way I could avoid irritation on the neck at all. So well my form has been getting better. Let's see if this will help it further. About the same irritation. But the kicker is that there was no resistance this time. I think over time as technique improves this will surpass just going north to south.

    Happy Shaving to all!
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

Sounds fair enough, will make sure to throw it in my cart next time I buy something, thanks Carl!

Forwhat it's worth I would also recommend the stuff. I spent a few months using it for about 90% of my shaves and, as Carl says, it lathers well.

It is a small puck though so I milled it into a container. The bowls that it come in (if you're not just buying the refill) has a fairly small opening so I would recommend you just buy the refill and put it in something with a decent sized opening.

It's boiling hot here (we're in for a string of days in the high 30's and 40's) and the other day I used icy cold water from the fridge. Much nicer I'm sure on a hot humid day than on a cold one!
