That's true. I remember thinking I had it all figured out, then I received a pass-around box that had an a couple of SEs and a Schick Injector in it. Since then that box has cost me a lot of money. Who was it that sent me that? Oh yeah, YOU did!

Ha, ha! I'm glad I could help set off someone's AD's.

I had forgotten about that pass-around. I'm glad people got something out of it.

So is the Schick injector SE your preference over all DEs?

I mainly shave with a straight but recently decided to add a DE for those times where I don't have the time to use a straight. I
bought an Edwin Jagger DE89L with feather blades and can say I'm very happy with it.

Well, my first choice would be a straight, but I still have a little collection of DEs, Gems and Schick Injectors that are in my rotation. The OP specifically asked about DEs though, so that's what I listed.......

    1. Merkur futera brushed chrome model
    2.1962 fatboy
    3. MY hope to have soon Merkur progress short handle.

I just stared using SRs and I am getting pretty good with them but wont give up my DEs for my early work days morning shave. I can get a great shave with DEs with derby and asta blades.

Since first commenting in this thread I have gotten another DE which is now in the favourites category. That would be the Fatip Open Comb. It provides a very close and long lasting shave but is another one that demands good technique be used.

I know the question was about DEs but I would say not to overlook vintage SEs. The 1912 Gem SE I have will shave with the best of the DEs that I have. It's another razor that will give a close long lasting shave.

I have 3 DE's in my rotation, of which 2 can be classified as aggressive.

    - Muhle R41
    - FaTip Piccolo (also have the Grande handle - so can swop between two)
    - Muhle R106

During summer I generally have a clean shaven scalp and the R106 with a either a Polsilver or a Feather is brilliant at giving me a BBS.

I'll give a big endorsement to what BobH said: the Gem 1912 is the best safety razor I've ever used. Of the DEs in my rotation, the Merkur 42c and Gillette Tech are the standouts. The DEs are good razors but the Gem is a great razor.
