Thanked: 485I've only got two, so it's not hard for me to decide. I have a Mühle R 89 and an old Gillette. I almost ALWAYS use the old Gillette when I shave with a DE which is about twice a week. I haven't used the Mühle for ages.
The Gillette cost me 10 bucks. I like how aggressive it is.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

A few months of experimenting has me settled on the Muehle R41 as top dog - dead heat with a Gillette Slim Adjustable set at 7 or 8.
The R41 has felt perfect to me from shave #1 - nary a nick or cut, good feel in the hand and always a quick great shave in two passes plus a little touch up. On a fresh blade it is the equal of a straight for me.
Close by is the Gillette Slim Adjustable. It took me a little bit to get comfortable at settings past 6 but, with practice and patience in the 7-and-up range, it delivers about equal to the R41. Nice feel for a finely crafted piece of 50+ years old."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

I have owned a bunch, including ATT, Weber, Feather, Merkur, vintage Gillettes. I have a coarse beard and prefer more aggressive DE razors. The ATT series is very nicely done. Weber is also nice and an outstanding value.
But I am down to just 3 DE razors:
LA Shaving Co. BBS-1 . A work of art and a very efficient razor. John also provides top notch customer service.
Muhle R41 (2013 and 2011) The 2013 being just a bit smoother and the 2011 being a bit more aggressive. I use a BBS-1 handle on the Muhle heads. Best handle I've ever used.
Believe the hype and don't be frightened to use these wonderful razors." Never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense." Sir Winston Churchill, 1941

Hello to All,
For me (at present), these are the 'best' DE shavers :
1) Muhle R106 paired with Feather or Super Iridium blades - very, very easy to shave with, and gives me a BBS, no -irritation shave.
2) Vintage Gillette 66/77 lomg open-comb two-peice, again with Feather or Super Iridium blades - BBS shave but I have to pay a bit more attention with this razor
3) 1948 Gillette Aristocrat, again with Feather or Super Iridium blades. as (2).
I have recently got a Fatip Grande, a Muhle R101 (same head as R41) and an Ikon Deluxe DLC Open-comb - I will be trying these soon.
Have fun
Best regards
Russ

That's too easy for me.. The Webers. Take your flavor.
For years I searched for the perfect DE. I amassed quite a collection. Over time I gravitated to the stainless steel offerings and then.. I found the Weber. It was a game changer for me. The search was over and so was the fun. The Weber shaves perfect every time. It wasn't long before I started giving up most of the DE's and ultimately I stopped using what I had left and switched to straights.
What's behind the Weber in my inventory? The iKon Deluxe Open Comb and Hoffritz Slant. Fatboy follows in fourth.

I've heard great stuff about the BBS-1. I believe the BBS-2 and BBS-3 are being planned for this summer. It has been mentioned (I can't remember where) that the BBS-1 fans are mostly R41 fans. Would be great if you wrote a review. From what I've read, it has moved to the top spot in quite a number of those who reviewed it. Topped some polls in another forum comparing razors too.

Thanked: 270The Merkur 37C (3" handle) and 39C (4" handle) are the best safety razors I have ever used at any price.
