Thanked: 14Learned on a Mühle 89 and went crazy trying vintage Gillettes, Feather and Weber all stainless, Merkur Progress and even a few Parkers. In the end, the 89 is what gave me the best shave so I sold almost all of my DEs and kept both my Mühle and EJ 89s plus a Gillette New LC.

Love my Gillette bluetip, but it's the only safety razor I've ever used, so I have nothing to compare it to. For a $2 razor and cheap blades I am very happy with the shave.

When I want an absolutely fail-safe great shave, I use my Edwin Jagger DE-89. I have straights, a Merkur Progress, an Ikon combo head, a Merkur slant, and a piece of crap Feather all stainless(it is a beautiful piece of metal, but a terrible shaver), but the EJ would be my choice if I could only use one implement the rest of my life.

Thanked: 1211. V.2 Muhle R41. "There is no substitute."
2. Futur on 6. Almost as close, more comfy.
3. Slim on 9. Identical to 2. (Fatboy very very close to this).
EJ 89 is lovely but a degree or so too mild.
When I need a 5 minute respectable shave I hit the Superspeed.
That's my stable.

I find the feather ASD2 probably my favourite DE. It has a terribly narrow angle sweet spot but I can get near BBS with zero irratation. The smoothness for me wins me over. I have a Mulhe r89 which I can get equally as close but n0t as smooth.
Because of the narrow sweetspot it took me over a month to get sufficently skilled enough to match the r89 and I went from hating it to loving it.

Best DE I have ever shaved with is a Mercur 39C . It delivers a super close shave. It also can utilize longer-lasting blades, like Personnas in lieu of Feathers quite efficiently. Won't cut ya, either! The heavy handle is a must after one trip. Nice choice, IMO

"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
