Muhle R41. Open comb gives me the closest shave.

I have minimal experience with DE's but I like my Super Speed Adjustable with Derby blades. Very easy to use, never nicked myself, and I can shave FAST. (I pretty much only use a DE instead of a straight if I want to shave in a hurry)

Thanked: 127Dont know how much DE´s i owned and how much i still have, guess around 100, but the best of all and the one that fits my needings best is the Giesen & Forsthoff Timor OC with the Stainless Steel Handle, its not the most adventurous DE but its the Razor that shaves me without any Problems, i i need a fast shave without concentration either when i have time enough and patience.

Edwin Jagger Kelvin (knurled short handle amazon exclusive) with feather blades.
I just purchased it and had my first shave with a Feather blade. Very comfortable 3 pass, plus touch up, BBS shave. All my other DE razors are going on Ebay.

Thanked: 2027With the exception of the cheap Chinese knockoffs,I really do not think there is a best DE razor.I think any gillette with the right blade will shave with the most expensive on the market.I have two,an old Hoffretz slant, and a custom Robt. Smith bull mastiff (Gillette head)I think is all in the blade, not the razor.JMO

Thanked: 1I have a Muhle R41, my first and only DE, and I love it! If I wasn't so interested in taking on straight razor shaving I would look to add another DE or two but time to move on now that I feel I have mastered the DE shave.

Thanked: 171Mühle have been doing it for years...
(That's what all the R41 discussions were about.)
...starting with the R41, followed by black handle R101, white handle R102, rosé gold R41, and now R41 Twist versions.
R41 and siblings get my vote; the black handle R101 has long been my go-to razor for DE shaves, and it has been said with some justification that Mühle open combs can give a user results that come closest to a straight shave.

Thanked: 3225Yea, the R41 Muhle is advertised as an open comb and it is but not in the same sense as the old Gillette open comb razors. The combs appear different to me and I prefer the combs on my old Gillettes over my R41. Still the R41 Muhle is one heck of a fine DE.

Thanked: 0I am a fan of the Edwin Jagger DE 89. Prior to Christmas (when I got my first straight ), it was my most used razor. It has a nice balance between efficiency and smoothness. My second favorite is my vintage Bakelite Slant. I keep hoping to get on the new Razo Rock slant but that urge is being replaced by the seduction of more straight razors.
