+3 I use both hands with a straight and one with a DE. I use the left hand on the left side and right hand on the right side when going with the grain. I use the left hand on the right side and the right hand on the left side when going xtg or atg.

And I thought I was crazy to shave left-left / right-right. Sometimes I brace my left wrist with my right index finger to compensate for less than optimal left hand fine motor skills/lousy weak eye depth perception/can't see around my hand issue. Also, the brace reduces my wife's opportunity to comment on sculpting my left earlobe with a razor.

The only time I've seen another guy shave (don't read into it, it was completely instructional ) I was amazed to see he used both hands, and he thought it was interesting that I only used my dominant hand. To each their own!

I vote to use both. I sucked it up feeling awkward but after just over a year of using a straight, I would say it's worthwhile.

I am maybe three months into my straight razor shaving and I use both hands. I actually find this remarkable since about the only thing I have been capable of doing with my right hand previously is to put a key in a lock and turn it. I quickly found out for me that if I was to get really good at using the straight I would need to train my right hand to shave. I can do just about as well now but slower with my right hand. Using a DE is all with my left hand.

It is better to be able to use two hands. I have a shave with both.

I've only been straight razor shaving for a couple of weeks. I have found that being able to use both hands gives me different angles with the razor on the different angles of my face and hair growth directions. Plus, it's all part of the challenge; it's part of the process.

I recommend this approach. There are some areas of the face and neck that require a different hand depending on whether the razor is moving up or down or across.

    +1 to Razorfeld

I use both hands and interchange depending on which area I'm shaving...sheesh...what Razorfeld said!!
