Thanked: 18It's interesting to see just how many guys in their twenties are here. I've counted at least half a dozen already! Nice to know that straight-razor shaving is popular among us younger men.

I started about a month ago and I'm 49. I saw guys using straight razors whilst do some Revolutionary war reenacting & figured I would give it a try.

I just started a few weeks ago at the ripe old age of 28, and after 10-11 years of crappy cartridge shaves that always left my neck raw and bumpy. The rawness is already gone, and the bumps are fading. I knew OF straights, but didn't know ANYONE still used them. Most of my family is glad it's working for me but thinks I'm nuts for doing it and will probably slice an artery any day now. Interestingly, my grandmother, who gave me my first straight has the most confidence in me...kinda odd.
I too am glad to see so many younger guys here. But I think it's cool to see some guys in their 60's starting in with straights too. A very cool mixed community here; age wise, nationality wise, experience wise...makes for a great place.
Peace,

I started last November at age 28, and wish I had started with a straight from the beginning! I had always wanted to try shaving with a straight since I was 13. I was bored one day in September and googled straights, and haven't looked back! It is interesting how much I have learned from researching straights and related items over the past 6 months, and this site along with others have been instrumental in my education on straight razor shaving and maintenance. I would like to thank everyone for taking their time to help out us new straight shavers, and for all the usefull information provided on here!
Respectfully
Louis.

Thanked: 39First started when I was 21 and getting sick of the Gillette multi blades clogging. There was no info available though, so I made a few unsuccessful attempts over the next years. Then a lot of things came together (and I got some real shaving info from this site) to get me to try it again a few months ago, at 35, this time I honed my razor. That really makes a difference! Don't try to shave with a factory-sharpened Dovo, it hurts! I've been using a straight for a couple of months now, and it always is very pleasant.

I can say that I happily shaved with an Atra for 17 years but when Gillette started with the 3 and then 4 blade cartridges was when I became unhappy with the quality of my shave. So at the age of 41 I switched to a DE and about a year later at 42 I took up the straight. Wished I would have found SRP a few years sooner.
