So I shaved with that Korn "The Real" this morning. It really shaved quite nicely. I must say it was a little different shaving with a fixed blade but in some ways I liked it. It was much easier to get those spots under the jawline and chin. Also it being a shorty is helpful in that regard. It's very hollow and I would dare to say quite fragile. I can see why Tom says they're always cracked. I'll have to find some good way to store it. Maybe that will be a good excuse to start making boxes.

And now for something completely different....
Back to this thing with the bent scales and French point that was in the same lot as the Korn. It's in very good condition. Almost like new In fact it might be NOS. There is no distinguishable hone wear. Also there is no makers mark on it anywhere. Anybody know anything about this?
Edit: of course I don't mean that the scales are actually "bent." They are just formed with that curve.
Edit: okay, now that I put my glasses on I can see there is some hone wear. I suppose it could have been a round point at some point in time but I don't think there's that much wear to itLast edited by PaulFLUS; 08-14-2019 at 01:47 PM.

No markings at all? It does look like a decent blade. Not in the line of RSO. More vintage look. I like it and the scales. Hope it hones up and shaves well. I have one with no stamps too. Guessing that they were made so the sellers could etch a company logo or something.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Nope. No stamping at all of any kind. I have seen them with no makers mark but the country of origin stamp in fact I have a no name with made in England on the back side. In my business I run into merchandise that doesn't have a company name on it anywhere. They usually do that because it's a piece of junk and they don't want you to know who made it presumably so you can't come back to them when it breaks.
It is a cool looking thing though. It's carbon steel and seems to be fairly quality craftsmanship. I guess we'll find out soon enough. Details at 11:00Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

UPDATE: So I honed this one up last night after a little cleaning. It really didn't need much, just a couple of spots that needed attention. Anyway it is definitely not a ROS. I also honed up #5 in the Imperial Extra Hollow Ground 7 day set I am putting together. This one is a really nice one and has a beautiful bevel. So I shaved half with one and half with the other. Afterwards I can't even tell the difference in the shave. I like the feel better of the really hollow grind but the shave is indistinguishable.

While not razor related I thought that the price was decent and the package with Starrett's Punch Set S248 landed at Ski's yesterday. I rode over this morning and after having my ass handed to me a few times shooting pool they are now cleaned up and the machined surfaces lightly oiled and put away. A couple are close to what I already had but can you really have too many punches---

Just came in today. Pacific Hdw. & Steel Co. Stiletto in the original box.
I found this looking for Imperial extra hollows for that 7-day set but it looked good so I figured why not? It is just about 13/16 and the blade is in excellent condition although it does need some cleaning.
It does suck that it has this broken scale but otherwise it was certainly worth obtaining

Castle Forbes Cedarwood / Sandalwood shaving cream and post-shave balm arrived last week. Smells of random bits of sawdust with nary any cedar and/or sandalwood.
Least the scent is mild and the performance great, or I'd be getting rid of this one.
If you were ever on the fence about this particular CF variety, you may wish to re-consider. I should have went 1445 I suppose.--Mark
