While they aren't perfect they do a decent job.

The last time I was at my departed friend (Benz) home, he was working on a job in his shop and his drill bit needed sharpened so he took it to the dedicated grinder he used for drill bit and lathe specific use and quickly sharpened the bit.

I asked if he was sure the angle was correct and he shrugged then pulled a drill gauge out of a drawer and it was dead on at 118 degs.

I always admire anyone who can sharpen by hand whether it be a drill bit or a knife as it is an art of it's own.
My Dad was the only one I knew that could sharpen bits free hand on a grinder....not that he he was the only one who can do it, he was just the only one I knew who could. Of course he owned a sharpening business so...

As Wallyeyeman used to say "Who'd have Thunk'.

While the function is the same today as it was 15-20 years ago when I got my first Drill Doctor the design/layout is completely different on my new Drill Doctor.

The original came in a nice blow molded case and the new one in a flimsy cardboard box.

Well I happen to like having a fairly sturdy way of storing tools so I decided to see if just maybe-----------------------------------------------------

Sure as hell! The new Drill Doctor fits nicely in the old case.

Looks like you have the basics to be able to make your own handles for bare blades/tools when you decide to expand the turning tool lineup
