Feeding my addiction to LeCoultre framebacks... could resist one with the finger scallops on the shank.

Believe it or not in a way this IS razor related.
I listen to an online radio show called Rockabilly Radio and I've sponsored a couple of the DJ's. I got the latest one started using straight razors and while not really active here he is a member/ Once he'd had a go at it with a straight for awhile he's even commented during his shows about the learning curve and the excellent results once one becomes at least fairly proficient with one.
This just landed from my mate and now I need to get a nice frame made and get it hung on the wall.
Thanks WildKat!
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

I nearly ordered a Dan's Washita but was warned against it.
I bought this instead. It was a scary purchase so I hope I did good.
NORTON ABRASIVES ORIGINAL PIKE QUALITY No.1 WASHITA OILSTONE BEHR-MANNING
Condition is Used. Stone is in decent shape. No chips or much wear. Half the label is gone. And there is only half of the original box left and its a bit rough! Still a great old Norton Oilstone
Guess I've found a use for the sic and wet & dry I bought.
It's 6x2
Now I really am broke.Last edited by STF; 08-16-2020 at 11:44 AM.

That's a classic, Steve! I'd say it's time to start on Mike or Marty's cleaning regimen for that bad boy.
There are many roads to sharp.

Thanked: 3215Wet the stone and peel off the label with a single edge razor blade. Save it and hose the stone down with oven cleaner, then an over night soak and see where you are after 24 hours.
It looks pretty clean and flat already. Nice find.
And save the box, you can glue the blue paper back on with thinned PVA white glue and re enforce the inside corners with strips of a brown paper bag. If you ever decide to sell it, it might bring you a few bucks more.Last edited by Euclid440; 08-16-2020 at 06:09 PM.

I didn't even think about the labels on the stone, thank you for that.
Do I keep them safe so I can soak the stone again if needed or would you stick them back on, mabe varnish over them to make them waterproof?
I will try to fix the box up too, but as far as selling it, I can't see it unless I got a defective stone that won't sharpen my razors
Shame the box doesn't have a top, still I wanted the stone, the box is just a nice to have and to be honest I didn't give it a thought. I learn something on here every day .Last edited by STF; 08-16-2020 at 08:07 PM. Reason: typos

Congratulations Steve. Looks like a good purchase. Now you've really gone and stepped in the hole. It's a sickness.
