At the end of my first and last shave with Arko my face looked like i had been bobbing for french fries...(Chips to some)
Fortunately I have a friend who loves it, and gave the once used and other un-opened stick a happy home.

Yea, people do have reactions to various different soaps. Luck of the draw mostly.

You are however 100% correct I grew up on Ivory bar soap and that's the connection that my brain recognized but couldn't connect with!

Thank you I will rest easier every time I smell Arko now that the brain cells are not exploding trying to come up with that connection anymore!

You know what REALLY smells like Ivory soap, to me anyway? Proraso blue. To me that one is a dead ringer for Ivory.

Hehehe, you just saved me from trying something I probably would have been disappointed in.

I don't know if I would say Proraso Blue smells like Ivory but it is a very good cream in my books. I think it is the sleeper in the Proraso line.

I agree that Proraso Blue makes a good, slick lather but.. menthol, yuck!

The main odorant in ARKO is citronellol.. as in the old time citronella mosquito repellant from the pre-DEET days.

The members of the "Turkish Trio" of ARKO, Derby, and GZD perform about the same and have similar formulations. Each is scented with citronellol and geraniol but in different proportions. Derby has more of the citronellol scent (my SO actually likes it - she says that Derby smells more like ARKO than ARKO does) while GZD has very little of the citronellol and more of the geraniol scent.

So, if scent is important to us, we can pick the one that suits us and still enjoy that classic Turkish lather. Of course as mentioned before, if we leave the stick unwrapped for a few days the scent will largely disappear.

I don't want to turn this into a Proraso thread but I recently tried what is considered the white? I won't be buying that one again. I'll go with red, green, and blue. Back to Arko, I donated a few sticks to the giveaway. I hope the person who gets them has never tried them before. Once you have, you quickly see the disconnect between price and performance.

Do you think there are differences in the lathering and shave of the different Proraso soaps? I'd think they where all the same with different scents.

I believe they do have slightly different ingredients. Maybe the difference is all in my head but I didn't care for the white.

But your preference is solely based on the scent though, isn't it?

No. Like I said, maybe it's all in my head but the lather seemed thinner and less slick than the red and blue.
