Have you guys seen the size of the shaving brush they sell...I thought it was a broom!

It's actually an Omega Boar Bristle Brush. If you want a boar bristle brush, this is the one!

Why would I want one? Stiffer? I suppose I could sweep the porch with it if it doesn't work for shaving!

If you like using a brush, the Omega, with it's long bristles, holds water much better than the smaller boar brushes. And yeah, you could sweep the porch, or, use it as a talc brush!

Stiffer is basically it. Of the people I've heard prefer the boar bristle, the defining characteristic is generally that they use a shaving soap, and that they think the bristle works up a better lather faster.

But... boar bristle brushes are cheap. Very little to be lost in picking one up to try it out. And if you do, the Omega is the Cadillac.

I looked at the brushes the other day when I bought
the soap, pre shave cream and AS Balm. I'm glad that
I didn't know that it was the Cadillac of Boar Bristle
Brushes or I would now own one.

I don't need another obsession in this insane hobby.
Come on, FOUR razors in only six weeks.....GEEEZ.

I see, thanx guys. I would think that those really long strands would negate the stiffness though. I"m not going to worry about it, but if its cheap we'll have lots more questions about it on here. So, now dumb question.

Why is boar hair cheaper than badger? More hair on a boar?

Hmmm... I might pick up one of these brushes for my travel kit. I dont want to ruin my badget brush and I really cant afford to shell out anymore money on shaving until I build up my reserves again! Wedding, house, honeymoon, etc....

I don't think there would be more uasbale hair on a boar. Of course
there would be a bigger supply of boar hair though. And
may be badger is just more exotic.

It's not a dumb question. Think of a badger brush as a fur coat and a boar brush as an imitation. Boar brushes are exceptional with hard soaps because their stiffness allows them to pick up a larger load of soap than a badger. However, their water holding capabilities are limited. A badger brush with bristles that long, would, IMO, be worthless because it would simply splay out against your face. The stiffer boar brush will splay out but immediately return to it's shape. The badger won't do that. For most, the badger is more enjoyable to use because with the water holding capability comes heat retention.
