47,846 is spectacular mileage for a pushbike its 5 miles everyday for 26 years, whatever about a road race bike or a training bike but on what I presume is a commuter, hats off to you Ed,that's twice around the globe well done!

Yeah I did used to ride a bit. And your maths sounds about right, I rode abit 14 mils a day 5days a week for quite a few years just to and from work.then there was the ride from London to ciren, and the London to Brighton and all the training rides for it, plus nights all over town that were just easier to get to by bike.
Cheers diesel. Now I just have to get some more comfy shoes to fit my cleats onto and I will be back into it a bit more seriously, I think that might be next I am in perth.
The blue tape is holding my spare spokes, as I used to break them pretty regularly, I could change them in 5 or so mins.Last edited by edhewitt; 01-22-2014 at 03:10 PM.

Not to get personal Ed, but how much you weight? The reason is that if you are riding a proper wheel for your weight, you should not get that many spokes failure. I'm a riding fool myself, don't know haw many miles I got on my 30 year old bike, but a lot, is about right (haven't had an odometer for over 10 years). Outside an accidental brush or crash, I had one spoke fail in all those years (different wheels).
High average spoke tension and little variation between individual spoke from the average spoke tension makes for a durable wheel (as long as you have a proper rim with a good number of spokes for the weight been carried).

I can vouche for one thing, Double0, knows his bikes & puts more miles on his bike than anyone I've seen in my life.
If they got rid of cars tomorrow, I think he would have a smile on his face.
