Another easy quick clean up. Once I get some bluing I'm gonna give that a go to darken the etch on this one and a couple others.

What's the method for bluing the etch again? I know I read it somewhere. Probably a couple times somewhere deep in the previous 1000 pages or so.

If memory serves, it's clean with acetone really well, let dry really well, then apply. I feel I'm missing a step Tuzi. I'll have to look it up before doing it.

Clean with acetone, yes... degrease any way you can. Then you could apply some nail varnish over the whole thing (tang) and use a needle to clean out the letters of the mark. Then I would apply the etchant (FeCl is what I have) leave it on for 15 mins.. then neutralize with something like sodium bicarbonate. Remove the varnish completely with acetone and done!
As the time passes, so we learn.

Thanks, yeah I meant so that the blue only gets in the etch and not on the blade face.

Here is Toms post on it. I saved it because I knew I'd NEVR find it again

    Bluing a razor

Get the rust off. Sand it super fine if neccessary. Put tape over the edge, loosely. This makes a great grip for my left hand and protects the edge. Buff it if desired. Scrub it hard in the area to be blued. Fine steel-wool. Clean with new paper towel and rubbing alcohol. Scrub down in the stamps with the Q-tip. Set on clean hard surface to dry.

Then we begin. 3 repetitions of the following.

Using another new q-tip, dip in Birchwood Casey SUPER BLUE and smear on the tang, under and over.
Heavily saturated on the tang/tail, light along the spine and nose, if desired.
The q-tip and a magnifying visor makes it easy to apply perfectly without taping anything.

Wait one minute, Rinse under running water. Dry with clean paper towel.
Lightly buff with super-fine steel wool. See?

Do this a total of 3 time times. After the final light buffing with fine steel wool, oil it if you wish.
On these, I did the RubNbuff in the stamps, lightly steel-wooled it after, waited a week or so to lightly oil it. WD40 works OK. Sewing machine oil, 3 in one is great!

Well with a Hurricane headed our way I had to do something I meant to do already & that was to rebuild my carb on my generator. The fuel petcock was turned off & the old gas had been drained a long while back but I remembered it wasn't running right the last time so I have a gallon of carb cleaner in the garage. I knew I had turned off the petcock & ran it until it died so the bowl was dry. I took the carb off & apart. I soaked it for 3 1/3 hours, & blew everything out with my compressor. I also had to go get some gas at the gas station before it would get really crazy & there was a line but it wasn't long. I topped off my truck because I filled it up the other night & I filled some empty gas containers. I forgot to go by the auto parts for some gasket paper but I found a gasket for a 4 barrel & I'm making one from it.
