It was a mistake with a Dremel on my grandfather's razor that made me join the forum, to find someone to fix it,,, wet shaving wasn't even a thought.

That sucks. Well, due to misfortune you're here & I hope you were able to fix it, even if you had to replace the blade.

Jerry, I didn't want to unwrap the blades and there isn't any kind of date or code on the outside of the box, however there was one opened blade and lo and behold it has the same code as the razor does which is C 1 which dates the blades as made the first quarter of 1932.

Great demo Steve, I being one of the few dremmel users here, can attest to the dangers of using it. You've definitely got to think things thru, before even reaching for it. Not a tool for everything, but vary handy at times, for me.

    Jerry...looking awesome, Bro.

Roy...its older than the kit I bought for my father, when at the Santa's workshop at school. ( first grade )
Won't ever see that happen again in our school systems.

Mike, you really have to appreciate the bottle opener included in the kit

I figured as much. Here's a similar one at FleaBay from the same manufacturer:

It's still a cool little compact kit--plus it came from a friend.

But if you have your DE handy why would you need an opener.

It was a twist tip bottle but I had to prove my theory!

I have been absent seems like forever because of work and travel for work. This weekend I managed to get just a little time. I finally got an Ern Ator like I've wanted for some time. Very little hone wear but some rust that got to the edge so I had to hone past that.

And wow, it shaves like a dream.

Also offered to clean up a razor and send to a new straight shaver who's in the military -- this came in a box of like 20 razors I got for $50 at a flea market. There's mostly junk in that box but also some amazing old stuff, like a brass-spine frameback that is really durned old. Enough to keep me busy for a while. But here is the rough and not-so-ready razor I'm sending to the new guy:

It's a Solingen blade, labeled "Optimus," imported by Dame & Stoddard of Boston. One of my favorite razors is a 6/8 Dame & Stoddard "Hub" that looks a little like this guy. You can see this one has pits and scratches I'm not going to chase -- it was a lot worse than this when I started. Also has some edge nicks that will come out on the hones, haven't honed it yet.

Have you ever put a blade in Evapo-Rust and thought, well, it's covering all the rust, so I'm not going to worry about the unrusted part that's sticking out? Of course you haven't, you wouldn't do anything that silly, because you know that after twelve hours you would have etched a really deep line into the razor at the "waterline" and it would take forever to get that out. Now I know that too.
