    Your right.
That would make a cool bottle opener.

engine46 - I think that the blade is very damaged, and it makes no sense to restore it.

Now that is a cool idea. If the old blade can be removed still I would totally try to make an opener out of that.
    Good thinking Guitstik..

I'll try to post some of the WIP pics as I go along on this one, the scales and the spine are in decent condition, the blade will be used as a template/guide to make a new blade.

Exactly the reason for my comment!

Yep. Because some blades are shaped different like on the Jaques Lecoultre razor's. I posted awhile back on a few I have that not all blades will interchange so I'm sure you could use an old blade from some other razor or find the right material to make a new blade. I think you can do it! I'll be watching for some results in the future.

Picked up some 1/8" O1 last night, its a bit thick, but was the thinnest I could find. Going to take the torch to the old one this weekend and see how stuck in there it is.

Also, thanks to Richard for the pointers/advice for this project.

It might be some work but maybe you could thin it with a diamond hone. I do that to the insides of scales when making them to make the cuts nice & flat. Then I sand them down. It makes the translucent scales a lot clearer.

I'm going to cut the piece a bit bigger than needed, and leave something to hold onto while I thin it on the grinder, then grind off the hand hold before HT. I suspect there should'nt be much post HT grinding neccessary, as its basically a flat piece.

    First step: polish 'er up.

Next challenge: Hone out the chip.
All I want to know is how in the Sam Hill does a razor get to looking like that in the first place? I guess if you were using it to strike against chert for a spark to start a fire in a survival situation maybe, but who would... Way hey hate a minute, did that razor used to belong to my brother?
