How do you come up with those great patterns for the engraving?!
I had a bone scaled W&B, really wanted to do some scrimshaw on it. And sat there for a long time thinking/imagining with a blank piece of paper... nothing. Couldn't do it. Can draw quite well, have painted, done carvings... but this I could not do. Drew a blank.
Looks great. I'm a bit envious.

It mostly comes from the pattern of a vintage french razor, found in the book of M. Jardella, originally in silver scales.

Adapted it a little, draw it on paper till it fits correctly.

You can also find beautiful patterns on some vintage heljestrand scales :

However, it's more difficult to make a scrimshaw on bone, because it's more porous

Oh those are beautiful! Okay thank you for the tip. I think I'll head to the library and look into books on art designs, vintage and older and see what I can find. Celtic knots and old sailors tattoos... see what I can piece together.
Yeah bone.. porous. Maybe need to sand it very smooth...
I've got broken ivory scales, cut them for a shorty and scrimshaw...? Hmmm

I have the same one that I rescaled in white acrylic. It's my favorite shaver.

New blade for the frameback cut out and rough ground to shape. Will do the detail work with files when I get back at it.
