    I would think if you soaked a blank in vinager long enough, it would become pliable. Kinda like an egg shell does.

    Nahhh--You grind them into dust then mix in a glue of sorts and then pour the mixture into a mold that has lines in so it looks like it did originally.

    I would love to know how that is possible too. Not that I doubt that it is, I just cannot wrap my brain around it. There has been so much knowledge lost over time.

    I would like to know how too, wonder if fresh ivory was more pliable? Or slow press over time fitted them into shape?

    I would like to know also. I googled molded Ivory and came up with Celluloid.............

    I don't think Ivory is any different than bone. So unless like an infant, the bone and Ivory are hard.

    Found this cool old read regarding some ivory manipulating techniques.
    Love that they actually recorded the s.g. of the acid. You could actually replicate their ratio..and I may try on some bone now..
