I had rather put in 10 motors from wrecks than 6 from 'rebuilders'. Just me.
I know what you mean. Near the end of my working there, my boss had problems with rebuilders & he started doing just that, having the customer buy it & do like ya said. Now if we rebuilt one, there was never any issue that I can think of. You know how it goes, you trust your own work rather than someone else's. Even Harley has a remanufacture program in which ya send them the motor & they have someone rebuild it & at the dealer I worked, there were issues with remanufactured motors. One guy had to have it done 3 times before they got it right. I think the Motor Company had a shop doing it somewhere's in Milwaukee.
I get those pics right, I'll post them. I'm happy for him, he did real good for himself.

I don't mind working on them Tom as long as I don't have to finish something someone else started. I have the specialty tools for them. I really don't like the newer ones, I like the older ones because they were much simpler.

Talk about shrinkage...................look at the wedge. it's sticking out all the way around. That's a Case/Genco. It doesn't say Case but it was made in Bradford, PA rather than Geneva, NY.

I have pants that keep shrinking like that, they must be made out of the same stuff

This is my newest acquisition. I thought I was getting a Clauss, but it turns out, I got an H. Boker and Co., instead. It is a 5/8. These photos were taken after I let the blade sit with some naval jelly on it for about 15-20 mins. I forgot to take the before pic, but these are very close to what they looked like when I got it. I'm going to give these scales the big heave if no one wants to buy them. They are not the original scales.

Keep the scales in a box or drawer. You never know when they might come in handy. Ive reused a few sets ive saved. Also cut wedges from a set. Hang on to them and that is a nice looking blade. Hope that hone ware is not too bad and that spot of rust on the edge might give you some trouble. But it also might clean right up. Good luck.
