Cut Tom's scales, making sure the heavier grained scale would be on the show side. (Cause he likes it rough).

Diggin around in the tadoo box, I came across this project Razor, ( for the love of god , I can't remember who sent it.!!)
But remembering I had a set of honey horn scales ( repaired, straightened, needing oil bath ) that wouldn't fit any of the blades I have properly. So I micro screwed the original wedge in see if the blade would fit, and look good.

I bought myself a Christmas Present and have been playing with it.

Yesterday after playing as I've posted; I once again drew down the chamber, closed the valve and shut off the pump. I figured that I'd see if it would hold vacuum overnight. When I arose I found ZERO VACUUM!!

I again drew down the chamber but this time it wouldn't evacuate. When I shut off the pump I could hear the hissing of air so I went inside to make a soapy water mix so that I could see where the leak was. BUT THEN it dawned on me that it was A Lot Colder in my attached garage then it was when I first started playing with the system (about low to mid 30's F)

So I put the spray bottle aside and brought the unit inside and let it warm for a couple of hours and then tried it once again. And BINGO! All was working perfectly.

I believe that due to the close tolerances that the cold had allowed some of the parts to 'shrink' and had allowed for the gaps that created the loss of vacuum.

    You learn something every day!
Good thinking. Probably the cold temps hardened the rubber or whatever the gaskets are made of.

17'F last I looked here and they are warning us about the cold headed here..... It is winter people!

Got er back together and I'm actually really pleased. Got the original collars back on and shined up. Sanded the scales and gave each side about 30 seconds on the buffer with some green. The chip came out pretty easy and it's just a bit over 7/8 now. Some pitting on the bevel but the edge is clean. I'm really happy with my choice to keep it rough and rustic. I'm actually just as excited about this one as the ones that come out looking new! Name: IMG_5052.jpg
