Mike, I'm with Tim on this one. Go with what was original.
Tom, sweet Herder.

Mike says to go with the silver. So good, it gives me time needed for drying. It takes a bit for the paint to dry, when the scales are so fresh from the oil. Don't wanna screw um up when honing now do we. Hmmmm.

Thanks, Pete. Here it is with a #25 which was pretty common until recently. I think most, if not all, have been sold.
#27 is more bigger with top jimps.
Coolest thing about all the various numbers in NOS condition is when the shaves come...
Actually seeing what different grinds were about in the old days!

Those look awesome Mike!
Honestly now after reading the posts, I don't know.
Did it come with silver paint originally? I like the silver. But I also respect original designs.
Also, Tom, did you say the original had silver hardware?
I do like silver pins and all. Hmmm I'm confused.
Tom that herder 25 is awesome! Great blade design. And the scales look crazy good.
Late night for an early day tomorrow.

Tom, them Herders are fine looki g blades for sure. And nothing wrong with solid black scales. I got a few and i too enjoy the deep black they show. Fine job to both of you. Im slacking trying to get caught up. But maybe a month or so and i will be back in the game.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Its always a fun day, when you open up a boat to work on and find a raccoon staring back at you from a compartment.

I had a slip on the buffing wheel with a new Dovo Bismarck and took some of the gold electroplate off the tang. So, I decided to keep this one for myself. I polished the tange and tail and semi polished the rest, made some horn scales, a horn wedge and here are the results.
