Slow and steady works for me. I have the high % stuff and it is good, and it is faster, but be sure you have time to pay attention, otherwise your vintage scales will look like someone’s trendy over bleached teeth. Keep it looking natural..
The streaks dont look bad. I used the standard stuff and soaked for 3 days i think. It cleaned the bone but didnt make them bleached white. Then a soak in oil for a few days brought some color back. The strong stuff might help but then you got bright white. So its a give or take thing on how clean you really want them.
Sickness seems to be going around so take care of yourself Mike.
Okay thanks for the tips.
I'll take another look.
It's got the streaks, but also some spots have the super white bleaching now.
I'm thinking about fine grit sanding a bit to see where it's at.
There's also a signature on the back scale that I want to rub some candle soot into. Is there something better for that?
Been working on a couple razors for our man, Sonnythehooligan. Both Mappin.
A Lancet, and a 75¢ Razor.
Attachment 303635
The lancet only needed to come apart for a proper cleaning, and flattening of the scales, and a bit of time in the oil.
Attachment 303636
The 75¢, needed scales repaired, oiled, and eventually have the letters repainted. ( hopefully ). Stamp is a bit shallow, near the pivot.

Blade is almost ready to be polished. Still working with the crocus paper. Lots of rubbing, fellas. Its a hand finish, no buffer or Dremmel.

Should have the Lancet back together for this Sundays, SOTD.

As always, nice work Mike. I need to get a Lancet in my collection someday.
MikeT,
Would something like the wax mentioned recently for coloring small print work? 1 or 2 pages back.
Where is the info for that jig? A good bit of my wood needs cutting down into thin pieces.
Those are looking great!

The repair went well on the 75¢ scales, so this set's going in, and the set for the Lancet, are coming out of the oil bath.

Auh yes! The legendary Lancet!!!
I'm half tempted to say nothing of its beauty, simply as to not make it that much harder to get one..
Id love to simply work on one and shave with it after..
Looking forward to seeing it in SOTD and reading of its grandeur!
