Jerry-Those are some of the prettiest wood scales I've ever seen (and a nice rattler-grind blade to boot!). I've got a bunch of restoration blades coming in for summer projects. I'm going to go back to wood on a few of them, but will probably be hitting you up beforehand.
There are many roads to sharp.

    BUT...
I got a bit of work done today on restoring ivory scales, and the reaper scales.
As far as the ivory scales go, I've been leaning toward keeping more of the little flaws and older coloring.
Instead of sanding it down and whitening them too much. Keep the personality of vintage ivory..

On the reaper scales, I've been going really careful, as not to sand down past the original dimensions so that the inlays fit nice.
Sorry for the bad lighting. Not too much work but I'm inching along.

Jerry, those scales are beautiful. Fit, finish, and attention to detail really show. You've got wood scales down to a science.

    Default Finished some stones

My Arkansas stones seem to be as burnished as their going to get. So here's the finished product. The loose silicone carbide/cookie sheet is very much the way to work on these stones. One thing to look out for is warping of the cookie sheet. The metal of the sheet became quite thin and was forming a wave as the stones moved around. This resulted in a shallow rounding of the corners and edge. It only extends around 1/8" into the flat of the stone, so it's not a big deal. It actually gives me a nice area for curved blades and keeps the edges away from the corners, so all good. The smaller stone is a medium which didn't really polish, the larger is a black Arkansas with a couple of translucent spots. I've had these stones for decades and they are now both performing better than they ever have. I'll be playing with a couple of my straights on the black to see if I can improve my edges a bit. Thanks again for the advice.

Gasman: Those ebony scales are beautiful, really nice job.

    Thanks guys.
I wont admit how many hours i got into trying to put a Jnat edge on it, but I got fed up and broke out the 20k and called it finished. Damn rocks are pissing me off lately. Lucky the 20k never fails! A nice keen edge. Had a good shave. I will put a different razor on the Jnats after dinner. Maybe that will help. Lol.

You’re a glutton, Jerry. I’m going to take another go at my new to me translucent after the kids go down. I hope you nail a fantastic edge tonight on the jnat.

Nice looking hones there, Jelly hope to see them in the honing forum soon.
