Ok, as promised, I've been playing a bit.
Here's the piece of bone that I used for this little experiment:
I applied common super glue to the area on the right of the RED LINE/I let it dry overnight:
This morning I applied a pretty heavy layer of the Black Leather Dye:
After letting it dry for about 5-6 hours, I wiped the piece off. Very little came off:
So I soaked the piece in some Neatsfoot oil for about 3 hours and a bit did come off:

Well as I said the s**t seems to stain anything it comes in contact with. However I would think that others should experiment a bit on their own before committing a lot of funds and effort to a project involving staining super glue.
I've got another idea that I'm going to play with here in a bit. I'll try to get some more pics with the results. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Roy, did you try sanding the ca side at all to see how deep the dye went?

Hmm, interesting...maybe bone acts differently than horn? Different structure/material?

Thanked: 4827Raw, that would be very true, however with a CA coating it’s the coating that has plagued guys on how to get it coloured. Apparently CA can to some degree be stained along with the horn and the bone, all you seem to need is leather dye.

My test was to run that bone through the dishwasher/top shelf/full heat and soap. Looks like Super Glue is still King of the Hill--

Thanked: 4827So the dye does not penetrate into the CA at all. A lot of stuff can come off in the dishwasher that would not under regular use though. I’m thinking about gold paint on China, photos on mugs, that sort of stuff, so dye on CA is not completely bullet proof. It may survive shaving though.

I figured that an Extreme Test would be in order, that's why the dishwasher.
I'd rubbed it many times today and nothing came off but I would imagine with time and on scales or such it would eventually rub off. As I said I hope others will do some playing of their own.
Note: I hadn't done any kind of sanding or scuffing on the CA, I just put drops of it on until that one half was covered. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.
