Back to the scales on the Frederick Reynolds. I soaked them in Neatsfoot for about 3 days and they look much better.


The separation in the horn is less noticable but still there. It almost looks like these were originally faux tortoise shell which had the pigment fade but I think that's just mottling. It's too bad that "badge" has a crack in it. I couldn't see it til I buffed it out. I'm trying to decide if I am going to keep these or replace with some new horn. That crack in the badge is now three things wrong with them that can be mended maybe but not really fixed (i.e. the delamination, the broken price at the wedge.and the badge.

That was a good one by the way.

Picked up a F.R. in Swedish steel. It was 7/8 but had a 1/8 chip in it not bad for $20. Looking good so far, can't wait to take it for a spin.

Well I pinned the Frederick Reynolds back together just to hav toe a look at it back in one piece.


Here is a before for comparison


from a glance it's not too bad but on close inspection there's just too many things wrong with the scales.



Plus it doesn't sit right which I can fix but it's just another brick in the wall so to speak

I don't know. I might sleep on it for a day. You know the old saying about fools rushing in.

None of those issues will keep it from shaving-I'd hone that bad boy up if it were mine. You can still fix it later.
