Americans have an impression (not defending or dismissing, just saying) that the French are snooty and rude. My father was a Normandy veteran. On the 60th anniversary on the invasion he went to Normandy for the first time since 1944. He said...my mother mainly really. Dad wouldn't talk about it much. He didn't talk about the war much either... anyway they said that the French people were so gracious and grateful for their sacrifice over there. She told me that he was walking.down the.beach and broke down crying uncontrollably. Amazing how you can bottle things like that up for that long.

Thanked: 3227All I know regarding who hates who from the countries I have visited, is that if you are courteous to people they normally will return the favour and in every country you will find A holes. Oh, and it never hurts to sew a Canadian flag on your backpack and hat eh.

Thank you. He is gone now but that would mean a lot to him. D Day was 2 months, 10 days after his 18th birthday. He was just a kid. So many of them were. That was a great video. That was exactly how they described their experiences there. And by the way, thank you for your service also.

I actually heard some Canadiens fans say that at a hockey game in Tampa. I thought that was just Americans that said that. Maybe they were making fun of Americans making fun of Canadians... I think.

So much fun with language words. I had an ex-girlfriend who remained a friend come back from college in Pennsylvania "Eh" quickly became part of our regular vocabulary.

So I finished the Packwood and am looking to get going on my Fredrick I thought was dead. Managed to get to clean steel and now it's time to deal with the crack at the toe. I haven't done this before so I'm looking for some tips. My plan is a little dremmel cut off on a wet sponge followed by some time on a Craftsman wet sharp I think Geezer has mentioned in the past. Here's a pic of my plan. The red ink is the crack. The blue is the new profile I'm aiming for. I have come to like the Spanish point and it looks like it will save the most steel. Advice appreciated.

Thanked: 4827The notch point is the original shape. When I trimmed down an FR regrind I have Thad had the same crack, I stuck with the original shape. I do see your vision, and it will likely work out fine. I too used a wet sponge to keep it cool. I made my cut from the edge up and finished on the spine. A straight cut and then shaped it carefully. It was surprisingly quick and easy. I have others needing similar work in the needs work board. Keep it cool and the vibration low and all will go as planned.

Your plan will work if you go at it carefully. But... If you kept the same original shape you could take out a touch more of that rounded toe edge. Just a thought. Either way do as Rez said and start cutting at the edge. Its easier to cut and done. Then hit the spine and sand, file, grind, until you got your shape. Vibration is what can cause the biggest issue so get that crack off first so it dont grow from vibration.
Looking forward to seeing how you do. Its more nerve wrecking than hard. It's just Sharpening, right?
