I've always wondered if it's feasible and if so if it's even practical to make a plaster of Paris mold and pour tinted epoxy in it to reproduce broken translucent scales. My guess is I'm going to get answer saying why go to all that trouble when you can cut them out of stock that's already made. Theoretically if you went that route you could put the inlay in the mold which should already have an impression for it and then pour The epoxy in to reproduce the same thing.
I've heard a story that Billy Gibbons was talking to BB King about using heavy gauge strings to get a fatter tone for playing blues. BB King's reply was, "No man. I use light gauge strings. Why do you want to work so hard?"Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Not sure where but I've seen it before. I think it was resin in a silicone mold.

We used to have a member who home brewed his own scales. Can't remember the process I'm afraid.

Ive picked up a couple more strops. Steardovan from T.M. and 2 Illinois strops (127 +827). Yesterday i made a few strop socks and got them hanging with the others. I got room for a couple le more I think...
This makes 15. You just cant have enough strops. Or brushes or soaps or.....It's just Sharpening, right?

Tom, the fabric is so stiff Im a little afraid of it. Ive been cutting back on the amount of laps i do on it. Stiff and course. The leather on the 827 is more like the soft side. A little fury. Just a bit different than what Im used too.
My plan is to use it for right after the honing to help clean up the edge before going to a nice strop. Any comments?Last edited by Gasman; 08-30-2019 at 04:29 AM.
