Thanked: 4827I think that expression is for those that hop around and never achieve mastery. Then there are the renaissance men, that have mastered much. Achieved by focus and refocus.

I found a set of carved, faux ivory scales in my search for shoes for the Imperial Razor, etched with the WWI armored cruiser, New York. Of the US Navy.
The blade has one of the most horrific warps I've experienced, yet.....and I've done a few doosies. But this one is German!, not old English, as most were.
So getting it to center took a unorthodox idea. I tried shimming, opening the pin holes to make room for shifting the pins, ect. ect. I could shim it enough to get it to work, but the amount it took, just looked horrible between the scales. I kept saying to myself.... If only the scales were shaped like a wedge......
Dug thru my wedge collection, found the right size, and angle I needed to line up the blade with the mock-up screws. Then CAed the wedge to the scales.
Filed and sanded to shape.
Worked like a charm.
Check out the warp in this thing.!!

Thanked: 315Looks great. Saw a razor with those scales at the Blade Show a few years ago. Guy was claiming the scales were genuine ivory and wanted several hundred dollars for it.
This blade was in good shape, but the tarnish was a bit deeper than I could just polish out so I did a little light sanding then polishing. Always nice to find a W.R Case.

Nice work Joshua. Looks good.
Mike, that is a serious warp. I have toyed with the idea of putting warped blades in scales with an asymmetrical wedge. I've never done it but if scales with a warp can affect how a straight blade centers then scales warping from the wedge could theoretically center a warped blade.
I came across this idea on the Vulcan I just restored. The blade was straight but it still wouldn't center until I fixed the wedge end. Actually it wasn't even a wedge. It was a spacer and yet it was still out. If a spacer can put it out that far then an asymmetrical wedge should be able to compensate quite a bit.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 05-02-2022 at 03:21 AM.

It doesn't warp the scales, they are straight, and bowed with even pressure.

I believe I have 12 different stamps on the 14-day Imperial set I made and not one of them is that stamp. I've seen maybe 3 more that I don't have also. They sure did like to change them. Nice work and a great idea of how to work with a bend, Mike. Glad it's in the tang and not the blade. Sure makes honing much easier. Nice bevels!
It's just Sharpening, right?
