Mail call today, so got to play around a little after work. The transparent acrylic cut a lot better than I was thinking it was going to. Got a bunch of different colors to play around with and the abalone came in the other day also, so should have fun. Can use the scrap pieces also as wedge material for future builds. It worked out that a sample pack of this stuff from Eplastics.com is perfect size(for me) to make scales. So saved on having to buy a full sheet of one single color.

Should be ready to cut out and finish sanding/polishing by this time tomorrow. Got a little work left do on the Rawson Brother's razor (sorry no picture), I know it doesn't exist lol. Going with a brass wedge that again I don't have a picture of, it's easy enough to take one. I'm just that lazy right now. I really think she's gonna look super sharp in these scales. The abalone is gonna kinda hide till it hits the light, then pop out. It's gonna be killer. Will take more pictures when I cut the scales out of the abalone and square everything up. I'm using regular old clear gorilla glue epoxy to bond the acrylic scales to the abalone in case anyone is curious. I've found it flexible enough to help keep the scales bendy during pinning.

I've had the last couple days off so been able to work on a few projects that were kinda stacking up. The brush handle I got from ColoradoRazorDesigns needed a bigger knot so was able to set that finally. It's a 26mm SHD maggards knot, set at a loft of 53/54mm, little floppier than most would like I'd imagine, but just right for me. Now I got an extra 24mm knot that of course I had to get a handle for, I couldn't just return it. lol My buffer also shit the bed recently, so I've been polishing by hand and my hands just can't take it so I'm slacking. But a few deeper scratches yet to come out around the pin holes of course. So once I get those worked out, I'll pin everything up. Also a little work to be done on the Rawson Brothers blade, light polishing touch up on the tang to get those light 2000 grit scratches out. I took inspiration from another member, and went with a sort of brushed satin look on the blade. There's was polish all over my fingers when I took these pics so pretty sure I got fingerprints over everything. So please don't mind the 'darkish' spots, the finish is actually quite even once I get all the fingerprints off. Got the brass wedge shaped and edges polished, so pretty much just waiting for my hands to start working again and I'll finish this darn thing. The scales are absurd though, my dad was over earlier and thought they were black, then picked 'em up and was like all blown away by the abalone shining through. This is definitely gonna be one of those razors that really comes alive in the sunlight. My poor photography really doesn't do them any justice.

I still have a ways to go getting All the bumpiness evened out from the grinding/pit removal and still a lot of hone wear to remove. I did, however, get the geometry along the length of the spine and how it effects the bevel out. There was a high spot right in front of the tang stamp that I ground out so the spine sits flat the whole way and the problem with the edge sitting up at the heel worked out. As previously mentioned, it also has some pretty deep pits on the top of the spine.

Not sure I'm getting all or even the majority of that out. This might be a good job for a soda blaster but I think that would be a temporary solution at best.

Still miles to go. Overall though I'm pleased so far.

Progress in hand sanding is micro-incremental. Hard to see in the pictures but the bumpiness is getting better.

The scales have some bug bites; quite a few actually but no cracks and very little delaminating.

Those blade faces definately looking smoother Paul. I reckon that razor will be well worth the effort.

Thanks Mick. I'm hoping it all comes together like I envision. Even though it's had a hard life and was abused I see real potential in it.

Ya have all the time you need to do it right the first time, just not twice.

Yep, it takes less than half the time to take your time and do it right the first time.
