Got the bolsters off the cracked/broken scales, so now to start working on the new ones. I'm working around an injury from work, got a real nasty cut in the webbing of my hand, and it keeps opening every time I try and work. So I'm pretty much throwing in the towel for a few days to give this thing time to heal.


On a side note I did finish the Rawson Brothers Razor, just forgot to post pictures. I will say, I freaking hate hone wear so much. Like normal hone wear doesn't bother me. But this one kills me, the scales came out nice though, and she does shave good. So meh.

That's awesome Laramie. What did you do to get those out, soak it in acetone? I have a Jung's Jewel that has beautiful bolstered transparent orange scales that are cracked in a couple of places but the bolsters and blade are near immaculate. I have been ignoring that project for a while and need to get back to it.

Ya know what Mike? I was just reading back a few pages and I have something else that might compliment your Freddie collection.
A Freddie double box...if you're into that I mean. I generally try to find boxes for the ones I really like. Some people throw the boxes away...

Yeah just a good soak in acetone and they pretty much fall off.

P.S.-Getting 'em off that's the easy part. Making them look like they belong on a new set of scales. That's where it gets tricky, lol.

Sanded up through 600. Pretty smooth now but may need to go back to 400 or even 320 to work out some blemishes. 800 will tell more.

We all get thrilled when we find a razor like that and put in some love, sweat and time to bring it back to how it might have looked when new. And then we get to shave with it : )

People ask why I won’t sell the ones I’ve worked on. I tell them it’s my hobby; working on the razors makes me feel good. Even though my results don’t approach what more experienced and skillful members like you and Mike have achieved, I really enjoy sharing the process and results with the others here at SRP.

Besides, at my hourly rate, nobody could afford what I’d have to charge to make a decent profit.

I expect it’s has been done, but I feel I should ask anyway just in case.
Paul, have you done a rough bevel set on that W&B? Sometimes when you have to do heavy sanding to repair a blade the thickness near the edge is not even and the bevel winds up wonky and wavy in the end. If you haven’t already it’s a good time to check to make sure it is straight before you go any further. Having been there I can say it is quite frustrating to start honing and have to take the scales off and back up.

Yes, I have actually done that a couple of times during the process. It needed the edge thinned and the spine evened before I started the hand sanding. Once I got a fair amount done with the sanding I test beveled it again. I'll probably do it once more before I get to the final polish sanding.
