I worked at a foundry for a short while.
THe furnace(about 15 ton cap) has carbon electrodes of around 6" diameter and 6-8 feet long to apply the heat to cast iron.
I imagine the speciality steel companies would use the same system for heatDennis

When electricity was new it was the latest and greatest and not the hum drum thing it is now a days.
It is my understanding that the Carbo Magnetic razors were tempered/heat treated using electricity and the magnetic result was a byproduct.

I thought the magnetic was an advertising gimmick.
Mine is slightly magnetic.
