Thanked: 4827It looks like an impressive Puma Mike. Your laser engraving of the scales to get the inlay work done is some serious dedication and it shows in the end results. Good thing we are saving money straight razor shaving.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

So I have finished the #66. Turned-out nice and tight with AjKenne's collars.
Had a talk with the #18. Sez he is fine and only needs a clean-up. Think I will forward him as-is to a Henckels fan I know. Never saw another #18? Besides, another blade will surface which needs shortening a bit for the other set of scales.
The locking detent I mentioned is accomplished by the top of the scales snapping over the tang as the razor is closed.
Since this tang/tail is thicker, the tail 'detents' a bit as the razor is opened back past center, but does not seem to be an issue.
All works well. Off to the hones!

That's neat, I can see that, yeah. The scales edges go over the tang a little bit in the closed position and keep it "locked" shut. Those are really cool scales, thanks for sharing and explaining how they work along with the pictures. I've never seen anything like that! Looks really nice and there's those collars again, sweet...

Thanked: 4206So I will be working on finishing that Puma thanks to the below score for $20
Now a small yarn, as to me, the story was pretty cool.
Some may recall I went flying in a vintage tiger moth biplane last summer, posted some in flight video footage on another thread actually.
Anyway, seems the gentleman who built the propeller for that very aircraft is the one I met this afternoon to buy the above brass from.
John Clark, a retired Scottish prop builder, HO scale railroad enthusiast,, and hand crafted muzzle loader craftsman.
Shown above with one of his .53 calibre bad boys in curly maple stock.
Does all the work himself still.
His shop was packed with goodies, and I really enjoyed meeting him and chatting about all he does, and has done.
His completed rifles fetch over 6 k and his complete kits go for 1.2k CDN, or about 50 bucks US, lol. Not trying to sell any on his behalf, but I thought you guys would like to see.
The fact that he made the prop that kept my ass safe in a 1916 aircraft last year, well that's the 'small world' bit in the story.
Anyway, as you were men..

The first one I saw puzzled me. Almost like a magnet was in there somewhere.
Then, I saw how it worked. Brilliant!Last edited by sharptonn; 08-31-2016 at 10:06 PM.

Sometimes it is all about who you know instead of what you know, eh?
Scratch brass rod from the B52 box. Looks like a lifetime supply!
Surely sounds like this gent is a pile of knowledge!
