    The Red Skelton stuff would bring me to tears at times. As approaching the holidays, look that up!
    So cool!

    And to get back to the shop talk,, here's maiden blank 1.0 for my turning pleasure.

    A blend of alumilite, and the trimmings from that fossilized oak brush I turned.
    Wanted it transparent in the middle, and coppery on the ends.
    Needs to cure a full day before turning to be safe, but I'm excited to see what it looks like once shaped up.
    And my personal fave is the duet with Bowie, and Bing, the little drummer boy/peace on earth..great stuff that..
    Cheers..

    @B52
    I can't wait to see what that will create. Standing by.
    @sloanwinters
    I love the streaked horn and the potentially aluminum lined wedge. The answer is always keep it. If we mention not keeping it the mods will delete your post.

    The first three, except on the bottom, still feel like wood, only hard again, not all spongy.
    Should work well with the resin and pressure pot.
    Did my first test with said pressure pot tonight and have this little left over nugget to show while the main blank cures still.

    Used a red dye and a touch of copper dust for depth.

    Will hopefully have a neat alternative material supply when all this testing is completed.
    Cheers.
    I think cactus juice is the same stuff. The directions, catalyst, warnings, bake time and temp are the same. My buckeye burl blank has been in for 36 hours, 12 on 12 off rotations for the vacuum, and I'm still getting bubbles.

    Cool, I ran vac continually for about 2.5 hrs, till all but the tiniest of bubbles were left, then released once, with the wood fully submerged in stabilizer.
    I am sitting at -28.5 " of mercury however so those extra 3 inches may make a big difference.
    Repeated vacuum pulls won't really help, IMO, as after the first pull, all subsequent pulls need to remove the juice already drawn in from the first pull before allowing any still trapped air out.

    Could be wrong, but I did do a fair bit of vacuum forming back in aviation, oh near on 25 years ago now.. I'm drawing my current opinions from experiences developed back then.

    Building mold boxes tonight I hope for those first blanks to try the next step.

    Cheers and keep up the good work.
    Tempted to move future stuff to its own thread as I think there are a few dedicated to vac/pressure pot works in the workshop.

    Yea in theory I don't think it's supposed to work. However, I keep getting bubbles after letting it soak not in vaccum. My hand pump only allows me to go to 25 or 26", so I realise I'm not getting optimal results. I see pumps on amazon for around $50, so I might look into that if I keep the interest up. My current set up cost like $30, so I'm not really too involved financially.

    A new thread might help. A lot of this has been discussed before, but most of the threads are several years old.
