Thanked: 4206Good point about it being removable via rubbing Pixelfixed. I noticed that as well. Seemed a little more resilient after oiling it though.
I think we can get nitric acid via the boiler chemical company diversey up here. Will look into it next week at work.
After the sugar rush I honed up the following last night and this am.
Maiden shave off the beau after lunch..
Cheers gents..

Joseph Allen & Sons Non XLL
6/8 quarter hollow.
Basic rescale and some minor high grit sanding. Took to the hones beautifully and is a smooooth shaver. Love it

Good-looking razor. Cocobolo? I like that double pinning at the base.

Thanked: 4206Thanks for asking.
For the beau brummel and the pipe I started at 1k and 2layers of tape to get my bevel crisp.
From there I went 4/8k norton for all of them, removed one layer of tape on the two new ones at this point up and had two layers on the w and b for the entire honing session.
After all of them were popping hairs off the 8 I replaced the tape and went to the Belgian coticule and went from milk to dilution on all of them.
At this point the British and american blades went charnley with oil and the German and Swedish Frameback went Zulu gray, also on oil. All then got .25 um diamond paste on sanded leather paddle strop, followed by hanging felt, than bridle leather.
The coti may be a partial step back from the norton 8 initially but its a narrower stone and I use it in my hand as opposed to the tabletop and I just find it helps to really smooth out and shine up the edge, specially at the end when its clear water. The Zulu is like a suction cup on oil after 50 or so strokes and I'm still learning where its used best. The Brummel was shaved with so far, and I must say, I like the edge! The tang grip feels nice even jimp less mostly due to the bluing I think. Will be looking for some nitric acid this week and will advise if I have any luck.
Cheers.

A member who has since dropped off of the radar told me that he and his wife were loading up to move across town and he'd carefully packed his many razors and had them in the moving van, but when they arrived and were unloading the razors were missing! His wife had decided to 're-arrange' and there wasn't room for the box so she had simply placed it on top of the already secured load in the back of his pickup. The member retraced the route and found his box of razors completely destroyed after being run over time and time again.
As Forest Gump said; "It happens". I'm sorry it happened to you.Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
