If I would have stayed at it... after getting to pinning with perfect amber wedges 3 times i called it quits. But I'll try again at some point.
The properties of amber from different places on earth has variation, so i may try some from other places... perhaps less brittle?.. maybe.
Gentle taps.. annealed pins?

One of my amber wedges broke do to the surface being not perfectly flat so when I pinned it... snap.

I've been contacting sources of bog wood.
50% don't return emails! Sheesh you would think they'd want business.
50% don't have larger pieces or seem unwilling to cut larger pieces.
Anybody know a good company??? I'll keep trying but am getting a little flustered.

There is a lot of wood around here but not your desired bog wood. I hope you get some.

I was literally just looking for some today. There's some on ebay in larger chunks, but it's not cheap! Maybe a few of us could go in on a slab and split the costs? I saw some 3" x 12" and 4" x 12" pieces, could make a lot of scales....

Hmm I just looked and I don't see it. Either it sold, or it was not ebay, or it was lignum vitae which I was also looking at today. I'm on my phone so I can only give the ebay item number, but this is the largest one I see.

I saw that one, it might work, when I saw it two days ago I figured if the suppliers don't work out..
But yes, tip cut down for scales those bigger pieces would be much more cheap..

Hi Mike. What does a variable speed sander look like? It sounds like a fine tool to have at hand.
