Ive got about 10 blades Im gonna give away but not all of them are clunkers, some simply need scales and blade surfacing. ... Do blades like that qualify?
Im gonna have to start looking specifically for junkers!
Sorry Mike, you run out, we may have to excommunicate you. Later sucker! lol

Thanked: 237Well I wanted a large blade, spike point, smiling, midevil style blade with a hammered finish. Bruno had free creative power and he created an exceptional razor that met all my requirements. I ordered the blade only, and it was delivered only being ground, so I had to do all the work. It was differentially heat treated, so my plan was to polish to a high grit, etch the blade, then sand up to 600 for a satin finish that still showed the heat treatment. I jumped grits a little early each time, but I was so excited to get the beast finished! I etched it in hot vinegar, and damaged the bevel structuraly, and have had to hone into deeper steel to get away from some microchipping (lesson protect the bevel when etching). The scales are honey horn with a buckeye burl spacer. Looking back I should have made a wedge, but this razor is a beast and I felt it needed to room only a spacer provides. Finally, everything except the blade face was cold blued with oxpho-blu. So yea, finally got it the way I want.

You did a really good job on that finish! I know that takes a long time and steady hand to get that kind of finish right.
I like how you put the sandpaper underneath with the grit showing, thats a good idea Im gonna have to do that. Actually I havent been that good at progressive pics, something I need to work on.
EDIT: Oh nice, you got the scale pics while I was writing. I didnt know you made the scales.. missed that. They look awesome!

Thanked: 4206That's a mad blade Prodigy, Bruno has nailed modern primitive very well in his forgings I think.
He was kind enough to share a few tips on my own set up and learnings as I entertain some home smithing in the future.
Look forward to seeing the build. And If I could edit the title I'd probably rebrand the thread simple "The butchered Blade" as it really is about the save of all of em, not just the worst. The worst just usually provide the best teachings. IMO.
So Mike T, post em up. Scale builds are all part of the save.
I'll have to look for your ebay posts as well. No harm in buying a few projects along the way too."Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 237Thanks! I went back and forth in my head on what material to use. I'm really happy with the horn. There's just one little spot where they are delamnated down by the wedge. Anyone know a trick to seal that sucke up? I thought I had progress pics of the scales, but I guess I just wanted them done and forgot. Yea the sandpaper underneath is an easy way to show the progress. It's hard to know when to change grits, I must have went back down to 400 3 times!
Sorry for the derail, I'll stick to the butchers from now on. This one showed up the other day and all I'm gonna do is hone and polish with a rag.

Mike, I just couldnt sell to a friend. You need a blade just ask, it is an honor to help friends. And on the bay I hate many tedious sales.. Im just selling a bunch at once. PM me if there is a special blade you guys are looking for, Ill pull it out if I have it in the lot. Rather give it to a friend than to the scavengers on ebay who want everything cheap cheap cheap.. Each blade in a lot goes for like 10 bucks, so its more rewarding to simply give it to a friend..
