BTW Tom, as you know I have two sets of those Babur pin sets coming. At first he sent me an invoice in German & i couldn't log into the German eBay to pay him so I went to the Google translator & asked him to invoice me in English. I got it all squared away & he combined shipping. Two sets should do me for awhile. After all, I won't need them on every razor I pin. Thanks again.

I wrote to him as well. He said those pins are steel. And also said silver pins are available for higher price. I am going to see if I can get just brass ones, no thank you on steel . And I just don't want plated anything, just don't like it. That leaves brass, I'm sure those are sold.
Are those kinds of pins how some people get such perfect peened pins??
Mike, with that horn, I've got several like that, and have just avoided the issue for now. Figured when I get to them I would stabilize it with CA using one of those vacuum pumps for stabilizing. Really suck that air out of every little crack and the CA would just shoot in there further.
I've never used a stabilizing system though. Closest thing was with fiberglass.

Damn, I didn't think about the silver pins! I need to see if he shipped yet. If not, I'll change my order.

MikeT, I don't know if stabilizing CA will work. The CA might set up too fast.

I sent Babur a message. I never got a message they have shipped yet. Even if he shipped already, I can probably substitute the steel for nickel. The 1.6mm is very close to 1/16". My nickel rod is 1.58mm. I went back & Tom said he knew something was wrong when he went to cut the pins, that they were stainless.

I was thinking about having a chamber with CA inside a couple inches deep. Maybe dry nitrogen environment. Put the scales in equalization chamber. Reduce pressure to very serious negative. Lower scales in to liquid CA, and then release vacuum to equalize...
But that's just mad scientist silliness probably.

MikeT, you never know, it might just work out. I've been wanting to get a vacuum chamber & pump for stabilizing maple & other woods. I have a vacuum pump saved in my razor list I found on the bay cheap. I have also seen someone on here showed a complete kit, might have been Tom, maybe not but I think I emailed the link to myself for future reference.

I wrote the guy about the silver pins & he replied with this:

    Hello,
pins made of steel and brass.
    No silver and no gold.

I worked for hours today on my FBU. And at the end of the night I was turning in, and noticed the spare room door open. Went inside and noticed my 5 yr old still up and had my FBU. He is starting to really get into things. Grabbed it, reminded him my tools and blades and work room off limits and put him to bed. It took everything I had not too get really angry. He was not cut, that is a relief.. But the toe edge of my W&B celebrated FBU was broken! Oh man!
Wanted to fix it. Will wait until tomorrow. Oh man what a bummer. Need to install a lock now. Terrible twos... insane fives!
Lock your doors all you dad's out there!
Hey Steve, if you get that stabilizing set up, I've got spalted hackberry and also other spalted woods... ? and burl too.

With all the trouble I've heard of steel pins I don't think I want to try them. I wonder if we could find those little collars wholesale and use nickel silver pins...?
I'm gonna try to order only the brass from him.

Awww man.............well the good thing is he is okay. He wants to do what daddy is doing & he's infatuated in it. Good thing you bit your lip & didn't get angry, after all, kids are more important. It'll be ok, I know you'll get it fixed up. Too bad it had to be an FBU but the main thing is he's alright. Kinda like my bad times the other day.
I'll have to see what happens in these next few days. Things are finally progressing in the accident I was in last December when a 23 year old drunk driver pulled out in front of me on my Harley. I'm hoping for the best. That's all I'll say on that issue. I hope I get some money soon so I can get a stabilizing kit. I would love to work with some stabilized wood.
    Glad your boy is okay!
