Also a pic of the Torrey blade that was chipped on the toe. I ground it off with my belt sander & barely took any metal off so it should be like a normal length straight minus a few thousandths. It was already a round point, I might have taken 1/32" at the most off of it if that!

It is so hard to do any work on the tang of a Torrey and have any mark left, unless it is a really old one.
They are looking like a fine start.

Thanks mike. It took me long enough but I found it, this thread is so long...................
If you go back to post 215, page 22, you will see the difference I already made with the C&H.

Thanks Shaun. Yeah, it's ashamed that is one of the later Torrey's but I still love it for the shoulders blade. I was making bone scales for it but they got kinda off some & ended up a hair shorter which wasn't a problem. They still would have worked until I drilled my pin holes. I drilled my wedge hole about 1/16" too close 7 now they won't work with that blade but I looked through my blades & I have a Case Temperite blade that will work just fine.

    Hey guys...
Gotta question concerning a set of scales i have ,on a Bengall razor i just happened across today.

The scales are translucent, and look to be delaminating, and also cracks up and down the length .
There's no grain mark like horn. It's smooth like plastic, but I've never seen plastic delaminate like this.

    Hopefully the pics help.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1442177698742.jpg

The dark spots are stains, on &in the scales.
Hot needle test, smells like hair burning.

Hey Mike, good question! I have a few that are like that & so far, I have not found out a way to fix that. One thing I haven't tried is soaking them awhile in neat foot oil but I doubt that would do it. I have always had to make a new set of scales if I didn't have another good pair to replace 'em with.

Honey horn. They look like imitation tortoise scales.

There have been a couple of members who have tried to imitate them using dye but I can't remember if they were successful or not. Zak did a writeup on it somewhere but I would have to find it.

Outback, I took a pair of scales of a Reynolds this weekend that resemble those. I agree with Steve; pretty sure they are dyed horn. Mine were de-laminating to the extreme and cracked through in a couple of spots.

    The good side.
